    New 2 Club, need help?

Hi, I just have a few questions about a BP swap. I purchased a 1.8 Dohc Engine out of a 90-94 Ford Escort Gt. I currently own a 91 Mazda 323 Hatchback with sunroof, if it makes a difference. I would like 2 know what wiring harness(s) R compatable with my car and engine? Can I use my SOHC harness? Can I use my SOHC tranny and axels, I plan 2 run All-motor, for now. What motor mounts do I need for this engine,or can I use the 1s I have now. I also found a 90-94 mazda protege gauge cluster with tach, will this work with the escort motor? Thanks for any feed back and support, sorry if this is a re-post couldn't find my answers with "search". Also please direct me towards any1 that has a BP swap in there 323, for tech support. Thanks
I will post pics of the Escort motor 2morrow after school.

Get the harness from the escort gt, or a protege lx, that is if you don't want to add some wires to your existing harness. you can use your tanny, but it is not as strong as the g series that was mated to the engine you just bought. the motor mounts are the same I think, don't quote me on that. It would have been best if you just took the whole car that you got the motor and used all the stuff from the escort and dropped it into your car. Yes this has been covered, search and you might find more. Welcome to CP!!!!!!

Like mentioned above, use the harness(and ECU) made for your engine.

Use the VAF made for your engine.

I strongly recommend using the tranny, flywheel, clutch, and axels made for your engine, the G-series.

The Protege guage cluster will swap into your 323.

There are lots of people on here with BP swapped 323's. You just have to look around.

      Good luck with the swap.

          done it on my 323

are you going to use the stock tranny? ( i popped mine twice so my advice, get the 90-94 Pro LX trans they can be found in your area and southern maryland easily)

is the 323 a standard or automatic?

I would also find a Protege BP fuel rail this will make the swap much more plug and play.

I was gonna get the LX Pro tranny but i don't have the money right now, but if I save for 2 weeks i can get it and the entire wirring harness out of a LX Pro, my 323 is standard, the escort motor i got was out of an automatic, i was gonna go back 2 the junkyard as soon as I get the money

the auto BP will work fine, I would advise to wait till you get the trans because if this is your primary car then blowing up the trans is the last thing you want. the 323 beinbg standard makes it much easier, the harness and ECU from a pro LX will make it bolt on.

also you need the rod that goes from the shifter to the trans as it is different on the G trans. Also get the monuts that go on the trans (all 3 of them) you'll need those

hope this helps, post up some pics of the car

i honestly think that all the info from this forum although helpful, made things sound really complicated for me. i made my dohc BP run perfectly fine with only installing a BP09 dohc ecu, sohc fuel rail(dohc injectors), the injector harness from the old sohc bp, and i didnt even wire up the VICs or that magnetic sensor thingy on the distributor cuz i didnt have the DOHC harness. ofcourse eventually i put everything to normal but the car drove great!

sohc->dohc BP = easiest swap ever

Now would be a good time to remove that A/C compressor, change the accessory belts, timing belt, and water pump.
