    Escort GT/Protege Head, Overheating problem

I was wondering if anyone could help out with this question,
the motor that was in my 90 Protege LX, burnt a valve in the 2nd hole because the injector cracked and could not supply enought fuel, so it detonated and broke the valve (exaust valve).
I removed the head and I already had a rebuilt head from a 1991 Ford Escort GT all ready, we installed the new head, did everything to what the Mazda Service Manual states.
Now the Car blows lots of smoke, (smells like oil) overheats when under a load (interstate speeds) and there is very little to no heat, and no heat when on the interstate, Timing has been adjusted and set correctly, water pump replaced.
I cannot figure this one out if any one could help out that would be much help!
    Thanks

Did you replace the thermostat? And just an uneducated guess is either there is something wrong with the rebuilt head (valve guides/seals), you got a crap head gasket, or there was more damage to the engine in the bottom end.

#2 should be easy, as there would be oil or gas in the radiator (also bubbling).

You might also have air trapped somewhere, which would explain the lack of heat.

Other possible causes might be a collapsed heater hose (for the lack of heat).

The no heat on the interstate is usually a symptom of a thermostat that won't close, but usually then you won't overheat.

As you can tell, I'm as stumped as you are. Maybe one of the mechanics on here will have a better idea (s).

How is the condition of the radiator? Especially the top.

how are you ECT(engine coolant temp) sensors? are they new? is the engine overheating at certian speeds or under certian loads(rpm ranges). is your engine grounded properly?
When you turn your car on... does it return the favor?

Retorqued the head bolts and swaped the coolant temp sensor to the Mazda one, and it doesnt over heat any more and swaped the thermostat, But I dont have that good of heat , and it still smokes a lot when I first start it.
