    FSP 1st Gen Protege Project

    It has been a long time coming, but this is the year I'm finally going to start this. For those that don't know me I've been over on the Protege5 forums most of the time. I've built probably the most competitive Street Prepared Protege5 around. Here is my thread documenting that build over the last few years.

    I finally decided to take the Protege5 to Street Prepared for this year. Mainly because I like spending lots of money that I don't have. Here's the short list of things I'll be doing as the money comes in. This is getting close to the maximum allowed in the rules short of running a fuel cell...


    I'm going to retire the car after this season so it's time for me to start building the 1st Gen Protege. I'm looking forward to this project as the 1st Gen should be much lighter than my Protege5 and put out around the same power. I'm actively looking for a good starter car. It needs to be the BP w/ manual tranny and no sunroof. These are harder to locate than I originally thought. I'm aware of how well Will Kalman's Escort did at Nationals. He was gridded right next to me. I think the 1st Gen Protege can be competitive on a national level.

    The search for a suitable car to start with has begun.

    I thought all LX protege's (BP w/ 5so G series tranny) came with a sunroof...


    I have heard of a few (few meaning one or two) factory freak DX's coming with the BP. That of course was still up for debate about wether or not the motor had been replaced.

    I have seen LX's put down more than the 125whp mark that the p5 you built was sitting at. I had a friend who dyno'd his DX with an BP in it put down 138 (somewhere close to 140 at the front wheels) with only I/H/E and advancing the crap out of the timing. You could probably get away with the exintake (exhaust cam in place of the intake cam flipped 180 degrees) mod and no one would know since it is a stock cam.

    What sort of parts are you looking to go with? I'd love to see a sweet LX build compete and kick ass. Let me know if there is something that I or the club can help with as far as info wise.

      lots of lx's came with no sunroof. for example, Jho's car.

        I'm glad someone is gonna actually do a thoughtful build and throw a BG into a class that it could actually win instead of going LOLTURBOand getting their ass handed to them.

                          Thanks for the replies. I will be doing a spot on build. I'm not worried to much about the motor at this point. I do need some info on struts. I'm running Koni single adjustables on the Pro5 custom built by AWR, but i'm not sure what is available for the BG chassis. i would rather stick with adjustable Konis or Bilstiens.
