    won't start? or turn over.

ok my buddy called me and said he car woundn't start and said the starts gone, cause it won't even turn over. so i went got a started and put it in, and still didn;t start, i had the one i got tested to see if it works and it did before i put it in.

the cars getting power, just not turning over, any idea what it is?

it;s a 94 escort LX. 1.9L but has pretty much the same set up at 323's and protege's, but it;s an auto. maybe something to do with the auto?

only thing i could think it was, is when you turn the key, nothing happens, but 2 relays under the hood (passanger side on the fire wall behind the strunt mount. they click quite a bit, so maybe they were gone, so i went to the wreckers got 2 sets tryed bothm nothing same **** happened.

he is in real need of the car, anyone know what would be up with it?

the cars has been acting up and he had to like turn the key back an forth fast to get it to turn over, but it's been working but didn't yesterday, now it's sitting in a parking lot, hoping it doesn;t get stripped. (ignition? maybe. but it turns on power to everything else?)

      Check the solenoid.

Put the key in the on position, not cranked. And jump the solenoid by putting a screwdriver against both the terminals on it, and see if it starts, or at least cranks.

i had them check it and it works,

you mean the postive and negative on the starter?

could it be anything else it could be?

          Power getting to the solenoid?

Power not getting to the starter? Check the little wire that comes off the solenoid and goes to the starter.

On my protege, the starter has a plug and sometimes it wiggles itself off. So I just gotta plug it back in and itll start up.

well i was reading the repair manual says it could be the neutral safety switch, but not sure where that is, it's in park, didn't try neutral. just park. the start relays are clicking. and the starts good, wiring is good, has the main wire bolted on, and the smaller wire that slide clips on, and it;s on. but still no start.

could it be the ignition switch? i could replace that and try but i think it's working find cause the start relays are clicking. which i replaced but also doing the same thing.

ok heres the thing... when they test this starter was it on or off the car? cuz if its off the car it dont have any load , unlike if its in the car it has the whole motor to try and turn it over. other thing. did you try putting it in nuetral and start it ?

make sure the fuel cut-switch hasn't been tripped. (passenger side rear, behind a little panel around the strut tower).

make sure the connection to the blade terminal on the starter solenoid isn't corroded, that can make it so the solenoid won't engage at all, too.

Could be something regarding the cable from the shift lever to the transmission, it could be just loose enough so that it puts it in park, but doesn't engage the interlock switch.

could be the starter interlock switch itself (or interrupter switch, I don't remember their terminology between the manual and auto trannys right now).

Basically, there's a big white connector coming out of the tranny, with two fairly thick wires, that you want to put a jumper across. This will bypass the switch that's internal to the tranny.

could be the solenoid still, though. I had the starter go out on my wagon a few weeks ago. I took it out, and tested it, and it worked, put it back in, and it didn't work. took it out again and looked closer, turns out that the connection between the blade terminal and the interior of the solenoid was damaged, and even soldering it wouldn't fix the problem. I was lucky that I had another starter lying around, so I put that in, and she fired right up.

could definately be an ignition switch, they do odd things when those break.

well we jumped a wire from the starter solinoid to the battery, and put the key to on, and it started... so it runs but you have to do that everytime to start the car, kind of getto. we have no idea why it's not working maybe a bad wire, or the Neutral switch which i have no idea where or if it has one. so my idea is to run a start switch like S2000's have. and just turn the key to on and push the start button, and it will start, he liked the idea since it's done it already. thansk for the help guys.
