rags. cardboard for the floors. chains for hoisting engine. engine crane/cherry picker. cups and magic marker for keeping nuts and whatnot seperated. brake clean to clean up grease and whatnot. engine cleaner so when you put your new one in, its pretty. might as well put in new plugs/wires. make sure you have fuel filter clips. beer and pizza for those helping out. a chilton/haynes repair manual. camera to take pics of car before you start swapping. some tape so you can label wires if need be. new downpipe/exhaust pipe gasket for when you pull your exhaust manifold off. line up buyers for any extra parts from the crap thats coming off the car

thats all i can think of for now. i just finished doing this exact same thing a couple of weeks ago.

the throttle position sensor on an automatic will not plug into the Wiring harness for your manual 323.

          the plugs are different.

Dont forget to wire up the VICS.

also, the fuel rail on the Escort will not connect to your fuel lines on your 323.

Those are some "gotchas" that I can think of right off the bat for the info you provided...

          Good luck.

ran into a couple of problems during my swap, 1 is that i don't have the correct transmission bracket on the right side of the transmission under the battery tray, second is the green plug on the sohc fuel injector wiring harness does not reach the right side of the intake manifold, third is the front lower transmission mount does not line up but i think once i get the right transmission bracket that might fix that, any 1 have any pointers or can tell me what I am doing wrong

the G-Series tranny mount under the battery tray is a two-part piece.

a braket mounts to the tranny, and then the engine mount mounts to the bracket.

i dont have a pics I can post right now. Sorry.

All ofyou other transmission mounts will line up.

i did a complete Fel-Pro gasket set HS-9717 PT, no I did not rebuild the bottom end, i am kinda rushed into this engine swap cuz i messed up my SOHC tranny at the track, and broke a CV joint, i need to have the car drivable by tuesday, thanks atlanta, i figured out that i was missing the mount off of a BP/ G series tranny, this is why the front tranny mount doesn't line up either, thanks, if i have any more questions i'll post

i ran into alittle problem with my fuel injector wiring, I'm using the SOHC injector harness on my BP injectors and there was a green plug on top of the SOHC intake manifold, the only green plug that I saw on my BP was on the right side of the engine below the distibutor in the center of the engine, is this the same green plug that was on the SOHC intake manifold, plz help, i don't know where this is soposed to be plugged into, thanks

i do believe its the same, thats your coolant temp sensor (for the ecu). theres a teeny one on the front of the head next to/below the disty for the temp gauge... which you need to swap out for the one from the 323 motor or your gauge will read wrong.
