    major swap problems, please read

i swapped my sohc out of my '91 323 for a BP05 motor, G-Series tranny, and ecu. I have a couple of problems, 1st is the check engine light is on most likely because i dont have the 2 wire running VICS cause i'm using my sohc wiring harness, 2nd is the engine "pops" threw the intake when i give it gas, i've been messing with the distributor timing trying to get it 2 run right, i don't have a timing light i will get that 2morrow, 3rd is cylinders 1 and 4 spark plugs are real clean and the curve on the plug is blue, cylinders 2 and 3 are fouled out really bad, completely black, please help this is my first Mazda engine swap, i know i have to run 2 wires for the VICS, but i wasn't sure about the distibutor wires, i heard some have 2 and some have 4, what is the difference??? my wiring harness has only 2 wires on the grey plug to the distibutor. is the 4 wire distibutor better??? because i only have 2 wires on my harness is that causing my engine to pop??? PLEASE HELP, ALL INPUT IS GREATLY APRICIATED, ESPECIALLY THOSE THAT HAVE SWAPPED B4, PLEASE HELP I NEED TO HAVE MY CAR ON THE ROAD, if it helps i will record my car with a video camera and post pics, if that helps, great thanks givin out to all on CLUBPROTEGE for helping me with my swap

your running like **** beacuse you need the right wiring harness and dissy for that setup. I can prolly find one for you here in the junkyard, but it sounds like when I fired over my BP with a stock B8 harnees

yes the 4engine harness either has to be changed or rewired. I rewired mine but you still need some parts of an LX harness to do it and its nearly impossible to do without it out of the car

sounds like your harness is just the culprit, if you can source out a LX one, it will make your day exceptional. The main point is, the swap is complete & will run, just a matter of getting everything squared away.

its interior plugs will not match up properly with the mazda plugs, youd need to do some work to that as well for the egt harness.

4th dist wire = 10th wire from the left
VICS = 4th from left on 26 pin plug

i finally brought the car home 2day, i tried to get that 4th disty wire but i'm nnot sure if its right, there is no pin in the disty or the ecu plug cause i'm using the sohc harness, so i jammed the wire in the pin slot. it is making a connection at the disty but i'm not sure about the ecu, i didn't feel any better when i drove it, and the check engine light was still on. i wired up the VICS to a switch, when the switch is on the butterflies are close, and when the switch is off the butterflies are open, when i closed the B-flies the engie idles smoother than with them open. so i drove the car like 2 mins around the block and it sounded like it had an exhaust leak, but when my cousin looked under the car the catalitic converter was glowing red, so after 35 mins lettin the cat cool down i unbolted it from the car and banged out the internals. the cat looked like a straight pipe, drove the car home atleast 6 miles, more like limped home. but when i looked under the car again the cat was glowing red again, wtf???? i need major help guys, don't want to hurt the BP motor so i'm not gonna drive the car, i'm gonna see what the Mazda dealer can do about fixin up my mistakes, and i also wanna check with a performance shop in my area called World Motorsports, owned by Chris Rado, they are gonna cost me an arm and a leg but my parents are gonna help with fund cauze i'm broke right now, if any 1 can guide me or slap me over the head in the right direction in fixin my car please do, thanks

i'll slap you in the head.... just have someone pull you a BP harness & be done with it sir.

Mazda will break your bank & have you buy the right harness brand new= MUCHO $$$$
buy used & do a quick install.

If your cat is glowing its clogged. if you knocked it all out & your positive on that it should not glow 2 all.

                          Is your muffler blocked?
