    2nd Annual ClubProtege Meet Ideas

What: Club Protege's Second National Annual Meet
When: Third weekend in June (June 20-22nd 2008)
Where: Kentucky Northfolk Campground a campground of Rough River Lake: http://www.lrl.usace.army.mil/rrl/

Thread will be cleaned every friday of lacking pertinent content

!!! lets get started planning this early!!!

Id really like to be even more organized for next year.
This years turn out was well with an estimated ~15-25 cars showing up through out the course of the weekend.
Everyone i've spoken to enjoyed the weekend event. Most can't wait till next year.

Here are my thoughts i want to see met for the next location:
    • More Centralized Location
    • By a Body of water
    • Plenty of alternative activities
    • Large Parking Availability
    • Reasonably close housing/camping accomidations
    • Twisty Roads for fun driving

With that started lets get some ideas coming to the table.

    all good ideas.

i think its going to be tough, if not impossible, to have a spot where people from the east coast and west coast can all come. 20 hours in the car was too friggin far!!! (but WELL worth it!)

I vote for a camping place that we can have have nearly everyone there...

also we should again have it either late spring / early summer or late summer to mid fall that way it isnt' too hot... and we should shoot for a weekend with a holiday that way it should be easier for people to get off work and maybe even do a 4 - 5 day weekend for the drive there and back

I can already see this thread falling into the unknown, so Ryan it's up to you to keep it organized otherwise it'll turn into a 48 page thread with nothing but crap and 3 pages of useful info buried in it somewhere.

Here's my contribution, I would think that South Dakota would be a sweet place to have a meet, there's mountains everywhere which means awesome driving conditions as long as you stay out of the state parks, there's bodies of water, and there's plenty of scenery, plus we could probably take over a hotel in the middle of a tiny town where there's nobody to bother us and keep us from having fun.

On a side note, I wish I could have made this meet, I missed it due to some unforeseen issues, my motor is leaking a small amount of oil and I'm having a hard time locating the source, plus I don't trust my car to make it 8 hours in one direction and then go for a fun ride in it and then back another 8 hours the next day, my car would hate me and probably not survive the trip. By this time next year I hope to have my car done, so it'll be worth driving to the meet.

prairie dog hunting FTW!! for those that don't know: http://www.sdgfp.info/Wildlife/hunting/PrairieDog.htm

my two cents: i think in order to create 'order' and the best possible turnout, we need to have a GI thread that will allow us to find out which regions of the US have the most interest... allowing us to pick a national meet location with the best turnout.

if south dakota is chosen, i will definitely be staying for a week and planning a prairie dog hunt with some Fort Wayne locals.

Count me out if South Dakota is chosen. Wisconsin was too far for me, and I don't think I'd travel that distance again.

It was well worth it, don't get me wrong, but a little much.

Before June would be way too early. Late June - early August would be prime time.

Definitely make it so everyone was staying together this time. Eric and I stayed at an awesome place, but I wish we all weren't so spread out.

I think Kentucky/Tennessee would be a better location.

Kentucky would be awesome!! Lexington FTW!! just because i used to live there... there are a lot of twisties east of town leading through endless horse pastures and an awesome ferry river crossing. downtown Lexington is also a thing to behold during the summer.. lots of fountains, on the street nightlife (smoking ban inspired), and it is a college town (UK)...
                just an idea...

Wisconsin was a ton of fun.. but if we centralized more to a location such as Kentucky i think we would have a better turn out..

to call this a 'National Meet' might not be a great title... i also believe that it is very improbable to find a central location for a US national meet of Protege owners.. we are not flying in on Cessna's

Maybe a major Eastern meet in Kentucky and a major Western meet in Colorado or Utah??? yeah.. i know... i'm digging too deep... that's what i do. details, details.

i agree that was a good drive for alot of you guys.Id love to see it somewhere more centralized, but id have to count myself out.Id like to still have a nice sized meet in wisconsin even if it isnt the national meet. All in all, i think it was a good turnout though, so i dont question it being even more intense next year.

Tennessee would probably be about the same length of drive as wisconsin. There was a really good turnout for the ohio meet in columbus but I'm not sure what there is to do. Lexington isn't a bad idea. Its only about 1.5hrs south of me(1hr if I'm rollin with others ). the reason I said "before june" is because I'm not sure if I'll be in ohio still. The move back to florida might be in full effect next june. Only time will tell.

turpro wouldn't the fall work then if mid summer didn't

i kind of like the idea of a roving national meet. Each year we could do it in a different part of the country. Maybe try and keep it somewhat centralized so as to make it accessible to as many people as possible. I really want to do camping again find a nice place we can all stay that has showers. If we go in soon enough we can all get campsites next to eachother.

why not have two locations, west coast east coast kinda thing... that way more people can get out to one meet or the other...

just a thought, but after saying it it kinda sounds dumb

many questions arive, & yes persay it might not be the best idea to label it as a "national meet" altho we all know any members are welcome.

DavidMW1 & i spoke of KY along one of the hikes he feels there are a few excellent places. altho we got into discussion about the idea of swimming in KY areas may not be the best for health (hrmm)

We may result in having 1 or 2 meets, just to cover the east/west coast differences. sad enough but more reasonable then trying to have members drive extensive distances.
