This is probablly a dumb quetion!!!! BUT when i bought my protege it didnt come with the remote. If i get one off of ebay will they screw me at he dealership to program it for me????

a lot of them will do it for free. I have the instructions how to do it in a FSM somewhere but I need to find them..

Here's another question for some of you that might know. One of my remotes was stolen. Any way to deactivate it? Will reprogramming my current remote do it or am I screwed?

yeah most guys will do it for free, mine did. i dont think you will have any problems getting it done for free.

also here is the instructions on how to program them.you can buy the remote from ebay for like 10 bucks.
1. Close all doors.
2. Open drivers side door.
3. Place key in ignition.
4. Next three steps must be done in under 30 seconds.
5. Move key to on and back to lock 3 times.
6. Remove ignition key.
7. Press drivers side door lock button three times.
8. Test the door lock button and make sure they still work.
9. Press any button on the transmitter twice.

If it works then thats it. If not repeat the procedure

Shouldn't this read "Press the driver's side light switch (bottom of B-piller) three times"?

Is this the door lock button on the remote or the door?


Just trying to clarify. I've reprogrammed mine before, but don't have the FSM in front of me.

ok THEMAN WROTE THESE UP.
1. Make sure there are no keys in the ignition and that all doors are closed
2. Open driver's side door
3. Insert key into ignition switch and cycle the key between the ON and LOCK positions 3 times
4. Remove key from ignition switch
5. Push the driver's side door sensor switch 3 times
6. Verify that the doors lock and then unlock.
If nothing happens, wait 40 seconds and start from step 3 again
7. Press any button on any transmitter twice
8. Verify that the doors lock and then unlock
If nothing happens, see note A
9. If you have only 1 remote, press any button on that remote twice.
If you have 2 or 3 remotes, press any button on any of the other remotes twice.
10. Verify that the doors lock and then unlock
If nothing happens, see note A
11. If you have 1 or 2 remotes, press any button on either remote twice.
If you have 3 remotes, press any button on the 3rd remote twice.
12. Verify that the doors lock and then unlock
If nothing happens, see note A
13. The codes should now be reprogrammed

Note A:
1. Hold down the driver's side door sensor switch
2. Verify that the doors lock and unlock twice
3. Start from step 3 again

If you start working on 1 remote, finish working with that 1 remote until you're done reprogramming it!!!

Yeah, that's the one. That's straight from the FSM. Good reference info to have here.
