Recently I have noticed a build up of exhaust "soot" on my bumber from the muffler. I've never noticed this problem before. What could be causing this?

when i had "soot" build up it was from running too rich, which was traced to a bad sensorWhen you turn your car on... does it return the favor?

Have you been performing a lot of WOT driving recently? If so, this could be a potential cause. During a series of ~15+ run auto-x events, I get an obvious carbon build up on the rear bumper of my Miata. As far as I'm concerned, it's rather normal considering Mazdas run rather rich at the top of the power band. Note, however, as others have mentioned, it could be due to a faulty O2 sensor.-Kevin

i think i am running a little rich too...
Would the O2 sensor cause a high idle as well?-=Jesse Goertzen=-

Jesse, just lower your idle. If you still haven't found the adjustment screw, I can show you where it is.My ClubProtege.com Feedback Thread

I know where the idle adjust screw is...
It wouldn't lower it more than 100rpm... it's something else... i guess when i get some money i will have to replace/check my sensors-=Jesse Goertzen=-

I've always had this problem, even when I had my LX motor. Now that I've got the GTR, it's horrible. I should paint the car primer black so no one will notice. Then again I'm always driving the car hard and shifting like this --->:ARCADE: .
