    P/S fluid removal + what kind

    Sooooo ummmmmmm my 93 is squealing/chirping at random. I figured i could try to change the fluid and hope for the best otherwise i'm going to try Jon's old pump assuming i don't just say f*ck it and go powerless. But then again i'm not heman soooooooooo it may suck!

    PS: So what fluid is the right one for this car? The book says some weird ford blah blah one. So is it ATF Dextron III or?!

    PPS: Any tips for removing most of the fluid? I was just going to unbolt one side and turn the wheel, etc. and try to get some of it out

    seriously, come up this weekend and try mine out... then either go home and depower your rack or i'll sell you my pump and you can go home and install it

      Rack removal with motor still in + no good tools = pain in the f'in ass! Especially since my rack will be replaced sometime "soon" with a rebuilt one as the play in the steering wheel is a bit much from driving her lately after driving the 95 daily! Sooooooo i was hoping for order rack, depower, removal motor, pull/replace rack, install low mileage motor, etc.!

        well just hack the lines off and drive it that way then. i doubt its that much harder to steer, as long as you drain the fluid. theres just one seal that you remove and i cant imagine it creating THAT MUCH friction.

          One seal that you remove?! I was just going to take the lines off and turn the wheel a few times. Of course thats assuming i even can! lol

          PS: I have a feeling i will be picking up the pump from you anyways sooooooo. I dunno what day yet. Have to pick up the "misses" from work on sat then take her son to buy shirts for school otherwise the world will end!

            taking out the power steering is one of the first things i did. it's not hard to steer at all without it as long as you drain the fluid.

              Just for future reference, when I pulled my power rack out to replace it with the manual one I pulled it out through the pass side wheel well. A lot of ppl say to drop the subframe and drop it out but with a couple little twists and perswading it slips right out .

                just dump the fluid and fill it with lucas power steering fluid. mine used to make noise when i first got it and thats what i did. 2 years later i havent had any problems with it. yet.

                    ive been rebuilding my motor since i torched it late winter. it will be going back in tomarrow.

                      Yikes man. overboost? Leaned out? Or did that guy you got it from for a good price beat it a bit too much before you got it?! BTW i ran into your buddy (forgot his name and he has the fuel cell in the car) on the pike just driving down there in my new beater and it was just a funny run into. He was telling me how he has all these parts for the car and i said yeah me too since i have two lol. Anyways shoot me a email sometime. We gotta get together somewhere or on the pike sometime to bs, etc.

                      PS: To keep this on topic lol, i put in that lucas stop leak crap for a temp fix till the motor comes out and a new depowered rack goes in, etc. so hopefully it'll help quiet it down!

                        the rings were on their way out(massive amounts of blow by) and my tps acted up so i unplugged it. that turned what was left of the rings and into nothing. so you know where it went from there.

I get a funky burning like smell on decel on my 93 (169k now) and yeah i'm betting its my rings too but since i'm not running boost i should be fine for a bit more till Jon gives me a great deal on one of his low k motors *hint hint nudge nudge*! And TPS disconnected made it worse? I thought just your throttle response and what not would go to **** with it disconnected!

                            no the throttle response was good, the car actually ran a lot better but it ran very lean one morning on may way to work and once i hit boost that was it.

                              Yikes that sucks. I'm still N/A and the engine stinks on decel and leaks a bit of oil out of the front crank seal, etc but then again she does have 169k soooooo. But i did get rid of my 89 BF and bought a 95 EGT for daily driving so things are improving in some ways!
