    JDM Importers

Now that I have an AWD Protege, I need a BPT. I plan on going with one of the JDM Importers out there. There seem to be hundreds and it seems like an area that could be open for scams. Anybody have any experince going this route. What should I look out for?

I leaning towards JDM Racing Motors: http://www.jdmracingmotors.com/
they have a listing for a GTR engine and trans for $1510, plus the axles and shifter are also available (i'm sure at additional cost).

That is one of my big concerns; if I order a GTR motor, how will I know if it really is a GTR?

ask to see actual photos of the motor youre ordering, theres many ways to tell

Okay, what are some of the ways to tell from a photo. What looks different on the GTR?

positioning of the intake manifold is more central, designed differently. hard to describe, easier to just "see" the difference. the heatshield on the exhaust manifold is more rounded, doesn't have the squared label on the front. those are the first two to notice. on the cold side of the turbo the piping is different, can't remember how so since I don't have a GTR pic to compare right now.
anyways, intake manifold and exhaust heatshield are the first to see differences.
No car! I soldz it. Now I have a truck. I like it, but apparently it has a hard time keeping up with a slightly modified 4WD protege with half the hp. Neat.

I don't know if I can tell the difference. I've looked at a bunch of GTR pics on the web and I don't really see a difference. It look likes maybe the throttlebody might me mount on an angle towards the front of the car and a GTX is straight (parallel with the block)? I'm sure if they where side-by-side it would be easy to tell; but I doubt of that is going to be an option. Perhaps I will just assume that no matter what I order; a GTX engine will show up and adjust my price accordingly

i have seen both in person so let me explain....

the intake manifolds are nothing to go by, they look identical on the outside. on the back/bottom of the GTR intake it has "BPC8" cast into it, if you want to trust them to check for that.

                  easier ways to tell:
the inlet pipe to the turbo is black plastic on the GTX... on the GTR it is cast aluminum.
as he mentioned, the GTX exhaust mani heat shield has a hump in the middle, the GTR one is flat across.
overall, the turbo looks totally different and is much larger.

if you are having trouble telling the difference just post a pic of whatever youve found (or PM it to me if youre afraid of other people buying it) and i'll tell you which one youre looking at

It has seen a rough couple of years here, but now I have light at the end of the tunnel. I should have the money to get a new engine/trans for the Pro. But before I drop the big money, I need to make sure I'm getting what I think I'm getting.

As near as I can tell this is a GTR. Can I get a verification from you guys in the know.

That makes me very sad, I thought I might be on to something. I still may get it, but hopefully not at a GTR price
