    OT "motorsports"

I dunno if anyone cares, but I'm gonna be one of the drivers at the 500 (!) lap Hornet enduro race tonight at 6PM at Evergreen speedway in the Monroe fairgrounds. Not wanting to subject a Mazda to such indignity, we've joined the tank corps and are running a turbo Volvo. Much laughter will ensue....
For them that don't know what about hornet class racing, it's about the cheapest form of "racing" there is. Class rules are set up so that hopefully no one dies, but at the same time, hopefully no one takes it seriously. Ah don' care who yew are, thet thar's funny raht thar....
'90 AWD Protege, full GTR drivetrain swap, ~320 whp daily driver, RIP, and
'90 AWD Protege, yet another GTR swap, Open class rallycar with a Toyota GT4 gearbox swap, thus crossing the line between hobby and mental illness. And a Brabus E55 K8, removing all doubt.

that sounds like a lot of fun. what model volvo is it? my dad used to have a 740 turbo. . . i remember being 16, pulling the exhaust and airbox off, and running open downpipe/no air filter up and down the interstate. . . my buddies and i thought it was so hilarious beating hondas with a volvo.

thank you for bringing back memories of turbo volvos

I learned a bit about Hornet races when I did the 24 Hours of Lemons at Altmont back in July. You normally rally, right, PNW area..? Had a nice long chat with a great gal this past weekend from the area. She was down for the Prescott Rally, co-driving for a friend of mine.

Yessir.. small world, ain't it. Tracy, right? She did her first codrive with me a couple years back.
That hornet thing is a laugh riot. Refreshing, beating the snot out of a car and not caring if it breaks...quite unlike the rally experience!
The Volvo we did this to is a 240 turbo. Unlike most of the other cars that quit the race and will never run again, all this tank needs is a new crank sensor and maybe a bit of a wheel alignment and it's ready to rumble again.

Yeah, Tracy. She said she had co-driven for you. She's been very busy lately, Prescott was her third weekend in a row co-driving.

I had a blast at the 24 Hours race, just like the Hornet racing, but longer. The Lincoln we ran got the crap beat out of it, but kept kicking back. The most damage came in the last 10 minutes, fender to fender with a 60's hurse.

Jardevall... man that guy is quick. Y'all would loooove to see my pal's *other* volvo, gp5 rallycar known far and wide as the Fire Breathing Monster. V6 turbo homebrew, well over 550 whp. Ford 9", drag-car driveshaft, Jericho dogbox, nothing else could take the output of that sillyass motor...
