    hi im a newbie

my nameis jason im new here and to my 92 protege dx. i dont have any pics yet but i do have a lot of head aches . i was just browsing and found that a lot of u are verry gifted with info about these cars . this site was sent by a powerful man to save me i hope . i have a 1.8 sohc that hates my guts . we thought it had a bad head gasket so i changed it and the manual i had was crap. this was not the first head gasket i have done in other cars and this one gave me headaches from the start . now its done the lifters knock verry bad and the head gasket leaks a lot worse than before. now i know the head was not worped it was checked . i dont know what to do i thought about a upgrade swap from the j/y but i have a verry limited amount of time and verry little money i could choke on 300 or maybe a little more but time is the big issue and i depend on this car 7 days a week 1000 miles wk so i need it going soon if someone could give me advice it would be a blessing thanks.

Welcome. Describe your leak symptoms (white smoke, oil and coolant mixing, etc). If your head is good and your gasket is new... have you checked for a crack in the block? Sorry, I don't know all that much about the sohc.

$300 would probably get you a BP from a j/y, but if time is an issue it might not do you any good.

        Welcome to clubprotege

Grab a dohc bp05 motor instead. Don't forget the harness and ecu. You'll be happy with that swap. 90-94 protege lx/91-96 escort gt and lxe/91-96 mercury tracer lts all came with the same motor. Good luck.
