    November 2007 ROTM - therieldeal

And the winner this month is with a large lead is......

therieldeal/Jon with his beautiful EGT that is clean on the outside. Inside this EGT is the heart of a beast. This is one car that you shock you at the light, nice body and paint and the power to stomp almost any Evo and Sti and anything else on the street. This car was thought out when he build it, instead of just throwing it together, and trust me, it shows. Any escort that has a 12.6 time slip is worthy of praise!

    Congratulations Jon!!

I first got into Escorts about three years ago when I was completely broke and needed something to drive for work/school. My grandfather had recently picked up a '94 Escort wagon from his neighbor, replaced the clutch and brakes, and had been driving it around as a beater to keep the miles off his truck. He sold it to me for $500, and away I went. I beat the living **** out of this car, and within 15k miles or so the clutch was slipping again, badly. In the meantime I had come across FEOA, found out about the EGT, and bought a Tracer LTS parts car to use as a donor for the swap. Then the clutch on the wagon really went to ****, to the point where I could barely drive it. I didn't have the time, money, knowledge, or space to attempt the swap yet... so I looked in the paper and as luck would have it found a black '91 EGT for $500. I picked that up the next day and I still have it (it's now my beater).
Once I had an actual EGT the BP swap was obviously no longer a goal or project, so I started looking into boost. Then I decided my car was too rusty to pour that much money into...and began looking for a new shell. I found the '95 EGT on FEOA for $300. It belonged to a very cool guy in Maine, who was in the Navy and didn't have time anymore for a project car. He told me when I picked it up that he originally wanted to put a GTR motor in it...little did he or I know that would eventually be its fate . The car came with no interior and no exhaust system...and a lot of what was there was partially taken apart. For good points, it was rust free and only had 102k miles! Thus, the project was born.

Originally it was going to get GTX ecu/injectors/vf10 hybrid/etc, just on the stock motor, which was in excellent shape. By last August this "kit" was ~80% pieced together when all of a sudden I lost my drivers license due to a medical condition. Unable to drive, and bored out of my mind, I spent most of my time at work or online (or both ). So, when the GTR motor appeared on Ebay I bought it within ~4 hours of it being listed. That was last September. Between now and then I've brought the car from partially disassembled and undriveable, to a practically bare shell, to a complete car which absolutely hauls ass .

I had the car dynoed once, a few months ago. It produced 241hp/244tq on a Dynojet, on a 90 degree day. Since then I have improved the tune significantly, and I plan to dyno it again just before winter. I have also taken it to the drag strip several times, and my best run to date is a 12.611 @ 111 MPH on BFG Drag radials. By the time I finally learned to drive the car effectively, the weather had gotten cold... so the track conditions were poor the last few trips up. With a good track and the current setup I think this car is capable of a 12.50. However...with the LSD, a real dyno tune (did i mention that all i have is a street tune?), and a few more pounds of boost, i hope to get an 11.99 or better next season :D.

I've decided that my car is a girl, she's picky as hell, won't listen to me, always wants to fight me, and when i give her presents it's never good enough and she always wants more.

No car! I soldz it. Now I have a truck. I like it, but apparently it has a hard time keeping up with a slightly modified 4WD protege with half the hp. Neat.

I was riding around in Jon's car on Saturday, and went to the dyno with him.

I was definitely on the edge of my seat the whole time. Just ask Jon, he saw me looking for things to hold on to, lol.

                    Congrats man!
