Need more performance 1.8 Escort GT help

We race this car at a local short oval track. We cannot use turbos. What can be done to increase power. Have already installed cold air intake. Exhaust cut off at about 6 ft from manifold. How about camshafts? Where do you buy them. Who is available to build an engine for me that has import knowledge in the NE Minnesota aera. I only need about 25 more horses.I thank you for any help.

Would I be just as good off to run nitrous instead of rebuilding the complete engine with HP parts?
Yes we can run nitrous. The official son has talked about it but never got around to it.

exhaust intake cam swap, that will give you some more too, advance your timing to 18 degrees if you are using premium, if regular go 14 degrees. it will give you a little kick in the pants

How far do you want to dig into the motor? You could shave the head a bit and/or slap some Miata 10:1 or 9.5:1 pistons in there.

Which part of MN are you from?

What does it mean to do exhaust intake cam swap. Do you mean to buy new camshafts or what. If so where? I am from the duluth area. Being it is an interferance engine how much do we dare shave the head? If I shave the head I was told you cannot use nitrous if one decided to because of the higher conpression.
              Thanks

Try giving this one a read. You take an exhaust cam out of a junkyard motor, cut the end off for the dissy, install it into the intake cams place, turn in 180* or so, and dyno tune it with some adjustable cam gears.
And the BP (your motor) is not an interference motor, but I still could tell you how much to shave. It's not a vary hot topic on the forums, most people are building for boost so low compression is the way to go.
And as far as the nitrous I'd check the tracks rules, most won't let you run it.

                Hope that helps.

actually the motor is non interferance. exhaust intake is a cut exhaust cam and putting it in the intake side. like he said above. if you use the search you will find info on it

if you're looking for just a quick slap in 25hp+ i'd go with your nitrous. I would recommend getting either the 94+ tubular exhaust manifold, or a pacesetter piece to help the flow of things. Then i'd run some premium gas (obviously). Possibly run an RX-7 air flow meter (87+ n/a) so you can run a little richer if you're not going with a wet shot. Or wire in a small 5th injector thats hooked up to your nitrous switch.

What is the air flow meter and what does (87+ n/a) mean. I am not familier with the new 4 cyl jargon. I use to hop up engines in the v8 days so please be patient with me.
                      Thanks
By the way what is an Escort EGT? Was it a production car by Ford ?

egt is just escort gt, 1987 and up naturally asperated (N/A) air flow meter is the same as your mass air flow sensor. the rx7 mass air is a bolt in with a little tuning it will give you a little more in the top end. the opening is a little larger to allow more air to flow through it

actually all of that will probably only add up to about 25, if that. the bp doesn't make power that well without f/i.
