91 escort GT engine spudder help!!!

ok i just bought an '91 escort GT 5 speed

The Fuel Cutout light is on but i checked the fuel cut switch and its good. it hasnt been triggered.

If i get in the car while its cold and drive it, it runs perfect but once it gets warmed up to normal operating temps. it wants to almost cut off in second and i have to down shift to first and kinda rev it up and ride the clutch for it to go

if you let out of the gas a little it clears up

but once its in 3 and at a higher rpm it doesnt want to cut out?

    Cliff Notes:
Car has Fuel Cutout Light on
    Car runs perfect when cold
Car at normal temps. spudders and wants to cut off at low rpm but clears up at higher rpms

    thanks for any help guys

check the sparkplugs. Make sure the gap is within spec
I live my life a quarter pounder at a time. And for those 500 calories or more, I'm free. I need FRIES! Two of them. The big ones. Oh, and I need them tonight. You're lucky the double shot of BBQ sauce didn't blow the seam on your nugget box. There she is, 2 pounds of pure beef. My dad ate it in 9.0 seconds flat. Check it out, it's like this. If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important.

Oh and by the way that shot in your banner with Vin Diesel's car getting shot, thats a civic not an altezza.

idk about the fuel cutout light, seems strange. change you fuel filter, it could be that (althought that still wouldnt cause the light to come on...). i'd reccomend a full tune up if you havent done one recently

my car had these symptoms when i first got it, and it turned out to be the green two-wire coolant temp sensor in the side of the head.

          escorts tend to do that..
          i had a 93 wasnt a gt though...

          but anyways...

IF big IF tho...the owner before you changed the plugs AND the plug wires there might be a HUGE chance that the wire positions on the distributor are wrong cause mine were and that is exactly what it did..so yeah...take a look at that...

i have had mine sitting for the winter and its doing something like that too. but i had changed the mass air flow sensor to a S type and thats when it started. so i put the old one on and its doing it still. mine says fuel cut off too when i turn it on and then goes away. check out your MAF sensor.

mine did that in the summer time but as soon as winter hit nothing seemed wrong.

dont forget the simple things ... if i let mine sit for a day in the damp i get this ... check the dist cap for moisture inside
