As some of you may know I just (almost) finish swapping a KLDE in to my pro.I
know there are few threads on how to v6 swap already but this one will be a little different. Now I not saying the information they have is not good, in fact I based my swap in the info they provided. In my opinion is very very good, but there were few things that weren't mention (i think) and i want you guys to know if you'r doing the swap.
Now, this is what i went thru and may be the v6 guys found a way around it.
so here we go. AND PLEASE CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG.
ofcourse u need the engine
K8,KLDE,KLZE
Harness,vaf,ecu:
I use the mx3 harness, ecu, vaf out of a obd1 car. my advise is if you can, try to stick to the same obd and don't mix and match that will alibiate some headache.
obd1 (92,93 on mx3) (93,94 mx6,626,probe)
obd2 (94 up mx3) (95 up mx6, 626,probe)
vaf:
All will work no matter what obd or harness u using but to be safe use the correct one for the obd and harness u will use
(mx3 je50)(626,probe,mx6 klo1,klo2)
distributor:
then again match to your particular obd and year.they are somewhat different
Intake manifold:
all good but i would use the curve neck to aleviate fitment issues between
the intake hose and the brake booster.(see pic 1) if using straight neck remove your brake booster before droping the engine otherwise you may have a busted brake line if not carefull.
head light jdm or edm pass. side:
this will sound stupid but remove the pass. side head light or the altenator
because this head lights have a piece of plastic sticking out the back and uf not carefull it will get busted . i did f.. mine up lol.(see pic 2)
axles:
ofcourse use mx3 v6 ones. I know few guys have had problems with biding or grinding but there is a way to fix this problem but i don't have all the details.
I will let you know when i have them.I can tell you that is very primitive and some people will not find it to be very safe but it works and so far so good on a KLZE swapped 323. and the best part is free.
throttle cable:
Im using the cable out of a probe but all depends on what intake manifold is going to be use.curve or straight(see pics)
motor mounts:
I know is been said that the only one u need is the pass.side. well that was not my case,I had to use all of them out the mx3.Another thing to consider
is the 2 studs coming out the timming cover where the mount bolts in to.On the KLZE one of the stud is not fully threaded so has to be replace with or from the KLDE or K8 the other problem you'll see is the engine will not be center. The mount bracket on the pass. side also has to be replace, Iknow I had to because the mount will not fit the pro or 323 mount bracket. I use the mx3 mount bracket,(see pics)
power steering:
Ok. we all know you have to use the p/s because the p/s runs also the water pump. The only hose that has to be replace is the one from the steering rack to the pump but there is a catch, the mx3 line will not thread to the protege rack because the little fitting on the metal hose is a little bigger so i took mine to my local hydrualic hose place and had the fittng replaced. Now don't remove the other hose from the rack, it can be use. this one the other half is rubber and that is the only thing u want to replace.
If Im missing information by any mean please post here
this is only my personal experience.
