    GTX ECU and compression ratio

Not really sure what sub forum this belongs in, but here goes.

I am planning on a GTX swap in the next few months and was looking at rebuilding the engine. At first it was going to be a simple replace gaskets rebuild, but I've fallen down the slippery slope of; "since the engine will be apart I might as well....".

I'm looking at forged pistons and rods. While I don't have an immediate desire for more power than the stock GTX levels I know I will in the future and figure prudent planning on the engine build will come in handy when I wish to turn the wick up.

Most forged pistons offered for the BP are higher CR than the stock GTX CR, 8.2:1. My question is can the stock the GTX ecu handle an 8.5 or 8.6 CR? I want to avoid det. at all costs. If the GTX ECU can't handle the increased CR, how much power are GTX pistons good for?

I do know Flyin miata can get custom CR pistons made.

the gtx ecu will have no problem with a slight bump in compression. plenty of people boost N/A bp's and use the gtx ecu... the NA pistons are 8.8:1

A great point I had not thought of.

Also GTX pistons will handle a bit more than the rods ... somewhere in the 300whp+ range.

really? Would not have thought they would support that much power.

Even the rods can take it for a while.

IIRC the N/A sohc pistons are 8:2.1 so if you were really worried about comp then there you go

heh I don't think I've ever seen forged SOHC pistons. Have not decided on whether or not I'll do forged pistons, still plenty of time to decide.

                    I dont think any do.
I live my life a quarter pounder at a time. And for those 500 calories or more, I'm free. I need FRIES! Two of them. The big ones. Oh, and I need them tonight. You're lucky the double shot of BBQ sauce didn't blow the seam on your nugget box. There she is, 2 pounds of pure beef. My dad ate it in 9.0 seconds flat. Check it out, it's like this. If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important.

if the revlimiter is above 7000 you have the BP26, the BP58 and BP55 revlimit at 6500.
