somebody once told me i could advance time, to get a little more outa my motor...i know on the older big blocks, their was always a down side to this. can anybody who has done this tell me the up sides and down sides of doing so.. and pos. any diy tips. or redirect me to a thread, i cant find...

You can advance your timing to 16* or 18*, both have shown power gains via dyno.
You will need to have your car in diagnostics mode to change your timing, please use a proper timing gun lol. To advance timing turn disti towards the firewall.
I ran 18* in my Protege GT, ran beautiful.

I don't know, but I'm going to guess that one of the negatives of increasing timing is reduced gas mileage. Can anyone who's done it confirm or deny that?2003 Protege5

it doesnt reduce gas milage... if anything it helps, as it the engine will run more efficiently.
i've run 14* on 87 octane... any more advance than that and you should run higher octane gas.Escort GTR -- 11.87 @ 117.6 mph -- 320 HP / 325 Ft. Lbs. @ 23 PSI
