    what should we do?

Ok my friend is looking at a 1992 Escort GT. It looks very clean inside and out. On the autotrader page it says it has 54k on it. But after research the 91-93 escorts only had 5 digit odometers, so that means it could be 150-250k but it really doesnt look like it does. The thing is that its an 8 hr drive if he decides to buy it on friday. Hers is the link to its page....

    Thanks.

4 grand??? it does look extremely clean but you just never know...
plus, looking at the engine bay, its been modified. that can be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it... someone could have seriously messed with it and you may not know what you're getting into
on second thought though, the engine doesn't LOOK too bad... but like i said, you just never know. i bought one a year ago that looked good, but the trans went out completely a week later.
    no heimholtz box either lol...

A carfax will show dates/mileage when the emissions/registrations were done. So you can get a pretty good idea if its crossed over the 100k mark or not!

yea its just the scary thought of not knowing FOR SURE if its 53k or 153k. And he talked them down to 2250 out the door.

and we do have its carfax, 2 owners.

Says first owner put 48k -(could be 148k?) and teh second put 5k then traded it in for a focus.

Im thinking teh second owner did the intake and tint and decided he didnt like it and traded it in for the focus.

look at the clutch pedal cover. if it has 150k, it should at least worn down if not completely gone like mine.

yea it look alright, i see some metal on the top left. And looking at the seats they still look pretty good, not too worn in.

That interior does not look like it has been around for 153k or 253k miles. Also If the odometer rolled 153k and you checked carfax with a lower milage, a red flag will be thrown for milage rollback. I'd say this is a good buy and is all legit
I live my life a quarter pounder at a time. And for those 500 calories or more, I'm free. I need FRIES! Two of them. The big ones. Oh, and I need them tonight. You're lucky the double shot of BBQ sauce didn't blow the seam on your nugget box. There she is, 2 pounds of pure beef. My dad ate it in 9.0 seconds flat. Check it out, it's like this. If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important.

really? Someone on my focus board said he owned one brand new and had some yellow sticker on the hvac, well that sticker is still on this car! You can see it one one of the pics.

It's not hard to believe that there are a few out their that have very low mileage on them. One of my very close friend, she has a 95 Saturn that she bought new to this day only has 28k on the engine. She hardly drives it, most of the time on the weekends.

if it is in great shape it and runs great, except for the price it really doesn't matter if it does have 150k on it.

Well theres a difference between 50k and 150k. At 50k the motor is tons stronger and has a lot more life left and will be very turbo friendly. At 150k valve stems start going, etc. etc. My mint 93 had 144k when i bought her. Now at 170k i'm burning oil big time. Sucks but. Plus if the car has 150k he can offer less money as its worth less, etc. Then again if the motor is rust free, etc. and has 150k then a motor swap > a motor swap into a worthless rusted shell, etc. So thats my plan for my 93. If it ends up being a oil burning issue that motor is coming out at some point soon!
