need to know if the kl is an interferance motor or not in regards to the valvetrain ... friend broke a timing belt and i need to know if there is potential valve damage ... 2nd i need to know how hard it is to change?

It's a non-interference engine. Change the belt and whatever caused it to break and you'll be fine.
And it's always tough changing the TB in a transverse engine, just take your time and do it right. Don't cross thread anything, you cannot fit taps in some of the holes there unless the engine is pulled.'90 Mazda 323 - V6 KLDE, supercharged, right-hand drive, build log
