    95 Tracer Trio

I have accquired a 95 Trio to rebuild or part out!

I need to know if the 1.9 and the Auto tranny are as good to run a long haul as the 1.8 DOHC? And is the 1.8 DOHC compatible to bolt up to the Automatic that comes with the 1.9L, Say if I want to up grade to the BP?

The report I have from the owners is it's was still running when crashed. The car was a great daily runner.

The bumper, headlights-grill, hood, windshied, airbags, radiator, and Air conditioner dryer, will have to be replaced.

I'm debating on parting out or rebuilding it. The Body panels and interior parts are good less the airbags.

The wheels and tires are in great shape, and the paint is nice.

I have othe BGs I can use many parts. I'm going to pause and see what comments I get from other BG fans and Mechanics before making a final descision.

    Thanks,

    David

That took a nice hit. Impressive that both fenders appear to have survived.

The 1.9 will run forever, the auto tranny will not (but it will come close if maintained). The BP will not bolt up to that tranmission. If you decide to part it I'd be interested in the steering wheel if it's in perfect condition.

        Thank you Sir...

The air bags are shot, but the wheel is good. As are the finders, amaizingly. The color is beautiful. It's been cared for, the girl driver just had a bad habit of tailgating. I don't think I will loose either way I go. If I decide to part it out I promise I will post a FS to part out on CP in the FS section. So watch thes posts. And I will try to rmember to give you dibs.

I'll bet this care is an OBD2 is'nt it? Air bags and all.

It's not an OBDII that started in 96.

It is the same as an Escort LX. The 1.8 can be swapped in but it's a whole lot of work.

I personally wouldn't get involved in repairing a cheap car that has had the air bags deployed. Unless you can put the $ into a "proper" repair with all new SRS components, that car will always be a liability in my book. Wether you keep it for personal use or sell it, if the air bags ever failed to deploy down the road, the finger could always be pointed at you. Just my $.02

Good to know about the obd2, what about replacing the SRS system with pre 95 dash and sterring wheel? Or is it a legal issue??

Cheap cars like ours only have things like automatic safety belts and and air bags because they absolutely have to. Back in 1990 or so it was mandated that all new passenger vehicles have an automatic restraint system of some sort for the driver of the vehicle. I don't recall exactly what the requirments where, but they could be met with either a drivers side air bag or an automatic seatbelt (look in the yards and tell me how many pre-90 cars you see with either).

It's all Gov't mandated in one way or another. Best not to mess with IMO.

Pre 95 dashboards are driver air bag only, so then you would be illegally removing the passenger airbag in most states. Unless you jerry rigged the passenger air bag wiring it will also disable the system completely and give you the SRS dummy light warning (3 flashes pause 3 flashes pause 3 flashes pause so on and so on, it's really annoying after awhile and I put electric tape over mine).Check your local airbag laws, it differs state to state.

I wouldn't mind having a set of those wheels sitting around though. I'm going to keep my eye out for them at the junk yards.

What up with Ryan, sleeping with airbags, now that's kinky dude!

Back on topic again...the wheels are going on my LX, the LX wheels go on the DX. And the old DX steelies get a freash coat of paint with decent tires, crumped up getto tracer front end. New air bags from Ebay. And I have a buyer for $900. Fixed like that.

Thanks for the in put guys!

The 95 Proteges came with OBD2 with almost all the requirements. For all intents & purposes it works the same and it's the same exact OBD2 port inside the car under the dashboard just above where your left leg would be when sitting. Just look between the hood release lever and the steering column. In some cars it's on the other side of the column or further back.
