escort zx2 with a klze swap

ok so far i have the wiring, crossmember , lca's and swaybar from a v6 mx3

I am having an issue on which transmission to use. Are all g series transmissions shaped the same from the end to end without the bellhousing?

My car curently has a g series transwith the axles so if i can change only the bellhousing to one off a v6 i could keep my factory components.

Does anone know if this will work? or is the internals the only compatable pieces?

Yes, all g-series transmissions will have the same internals, the bellhousing will be different obviously. This is why people are able to run the mazdaspeed LSD in both 4 cylinder g-series trannies, and 6 cyl g-series trannies.

The only snag i can see you running into is axle length now, the zx2 axles may be to short to properly sit in the extended front wheel base (mx3 LCAs = 30mm wider)

As for your mx-3 swaybar, i'd throw it out. You can cut the swaybar brackets off the Mx3 LCAs and expose a hole for your zx2 swaybar to be bolted down. Your zx2 front bar is 25mm, where as the mx3 is 19mm i believe..

Any pictures of your progress so far?

Ok since you say the lca's are wider, bare with me to explain what im pondering.

If i only use the crossmember from the mx3 and use my factory escort tranny with a v6 bellhousing, escort Lca's, 25MM swaybar and axles would that work?

i dont have pics but i have a pic of my car, it'smy daily driver so im gathering parts b4 attempting the swap.

no you need the extra 30mm of width.

Your best bet is to swap in the full mx3 v6 front subframe and install your 25mm bar. Might as well do the rear too, this way you get rear disks and the extra 30mm as well. There's an adjustable 22mm rear bar you can use for the mx3 rear end.

no you dont, the extra width issue is because the v6 axles are longer. if he wants to stay with escort axles he should be fine on width.

the problem is i dont know if the cases are as 100% interchangeable as you might think. sure the internals are the same that doesnt mean that the bellhousing piece is the only part of the case that differs.

you could however put the escort (26 spline) differential in the v6 transmission (normally 28 spline), and then run your stock drivers side axle and an escort SPI (97+ LX) passenger side axle. that should work.
