    Gathering parts and info for V6 swap

    Alright, the Scortege blew the head gasket last week, and possibly warped the head. So, rather than rebuild or replace the puny 1.9L, I'm going to be stealing the motor out of my dad's $80 MX6. I need some info, though, to be sure I understand everything correctly.

    I have a basic understanding of what I need, but one thing that concerns me is tranny. I know the 5spd would be better, but can I use the auto tranny? The MX6 I'm going to be using as a parts donor is auto, but the trans is blown. So can i get another auto trans, or do I have to swap to 5spd to make it work in the escort? If I have to swap to 5spd, can i use my v6 and just swap the torque convertor for a flywheel?

    I realize I need engine, MAF, ECU, wiring harness, trans, shifter linkages, crossmember, axles. Am I missing anything?

    you need an MX3 v6 donor car for alot of the parts you need like crossmember ect. also ... if you have to change the tranny anyways go 5spd absolutely! you are doing 80% of the work already in just doing the swap and it's not too hard with the motor out

      ur on ur own with th auto tranny process...lol

      but u should have no problem using the automatic motor..

        wow lol.

        ok if its an auto V6 there shouldn't be any differences in the engine, the differences are obviously, tranny, axles, harness, ecu.

        what you will need to do this swap as painlessly as possible!

        -V6 engine
        -V6 tranny (probe v6 has better 5th gearing)
        -V6 front/rear mounts (mx3)
        -V6 harness/ecu/maf (mx3 works best)
        -MX3 front subframe/steering rack (dont join the 'axle binding' club with messing around with LCA swaps)
        -MX3 V6 passenger mount
        -MX3 V6 axles
        -Mx3 V6 linkage
        -Mx3 V6 p/s lines
        -Mx3 V6 rad hoses

        I would recommend installing your rad infront of your rad support, this way you dont have to source out another rad/fan combo. To hook the escort rad up to the V6 engine, you'll need to cut and paste the mx3 hoses and escort hoses, then join them together with a piece of exhaust pipe and clamp it.

        as mazdanoob said getting a mx3 v6 parts car would be in your best interest. this way all you have to do is drop the subframe/engine/tranny and swap out the K8 for the KLDE and install it in your car. very painless!

          So I can use the escort radiatior? Also, what about fuel? Do I still use the escort fuel pump and lines, or do I need to change out to a different fuel pump? Also, I read somewhere the there was an issue with the brake master cylinder hitting something, like the intake piping or something like that. Also, what about guages? And wiring? Is the wiring plug and play?

            read the info!!!

            a few threads answer all ur questions!

            fuel pumps all the same between lx/gt's and gs's

            brake master, is inthe way of the intake pipe if u use the straight neck manifold..

            my pro speedo worked in the gs tranny, all the other gauges worked too, but the tach was way off..

                I think he told me he had to swap out a dash harness. Can't remember what 1 though.
