    Not a boom but still....

I just spun a rod tonight.

I was hoping if/when the motor would let go it would be some spectacular BOOM, but she just goes slowly. It sounds like it's the #1 rod baring has spun.

Well it looks like I'm going to have to start my engine build sooner than I thought. So keep and see out on the for sale forums I"ll have a CS dp and GTX mani up soon.

after all your MS work too. sucks man, at least it didn't go boom, that'd really suck.
No car! I soldz it. Now I have a truck. I like it, but apparently it has a hard time keeping up with a slightly modified 4WD protege with half the hp. Neat.

I think the oil might have had a little to much gas in it. I was have some issues with cold starts, cuz I was running my PW's to high. I also didn't get a chance to fix my after start enrichments, so I ran pig rich there too. I was going to change to old today, but that's kinda a moot point now.

It happened last night, I had a co-worker want to go for a spin. And you just can't say no to a chance to show off all your hard work. So I made sure to give it a chance to warm up and I also took it easy for a few blocks. Got to one of my favorite roads and opened the old girl up. Everything felt fine, so I turned of the launch control/flat shift and ran it again, and it all felt great. But my last shift it bogged out a little, and that awful noise chimed in. It also creped to about 17 psi and with the flat shifts it never dropped under about 11. I'm going to rip the car down on thursday and friday if the weather hold out. I have/will have a ported T-28, log mani, 3' dp, B6T rods, 1mm over pistons, new lower ball joint, control arm bushings, and I might pick up a civic radiator. So I hope to back on the road in a few weeks. I just have to wait on my tax refunds.

I the car had just over 100,000 rounds on it. I don't know the prior history on the car, but ran it at 14 psi all last summer with that damn top mount interheater. On cold starts I runs to rich for my gauge which is under 10.0:1. I did get it around 10:1 to 11:1, but I still think the damage was already done.

I think a lot of your starting attempts is what put most of that gas in the oil. I changed the oil immediately after I started my car on MS and found gas in the oil.

                  Really cold - 10.5.

It should be between 11-12 during normal warmup until coolant reaches 150-160 degrees.

                      Probably a stupid question but.......

If you were to have say a knock at startup that quieted right down once the engine was warm, but was still there and found a worn rod bearing but the rod still looks great and goes together fine, would the rod be ok to reuse?

Like a dumbass I changed everything but my rod bearings when I did my head work/rebuild cause they looked as good as the new main bearings. After a couple weeks of driving it the # 4 cyl has a knock. Once the engine warms up its nearly gone and when its at its loudest if you remove the plug wire it stops knocking.

I started this crap on a 100km highway trip at 2am. Zero power loss on the rest of the drive home.

Any knock is bad and it will get worse over time unfortunately.

Good thing I havn't driven it since eh? Fixing that before it gets started again.

I feel stupid the rod bearings were only $50.
