    2007 Ford Fusion

the 2007 ford fusion has the 2.3L I-4 that has 160hp and 156lbs.ft of torque. The reason i bring this up is because while studying the source books, so i can bone up on product knowledge for my job (selling new/used ford vehicles), i noticed that the 5spd manual transmission that they use is the g5m transmission. which im sure most of you know is a transmission that was bolted to the BP05. now, i know in the 2008 models, they used an electronic throttle body that is incompatible with our cars. HOWEVER, im checking to see if the 2007 or 2006 came with the standard cable throttle body. im wondering if with some finagling we wouldnt be able to get these engines swapped into our cars. i dont think the engine/tranny mounts are going to match up, but those can always be fabbed. im also guessing that you'd have to run a standalone ECU since the car's wiring will be way way way diff.

what do you guys think? personally i think having a bigger displacement engine would be freakin awesome to have.

    EDIT: http://www.fordfusion.net/specs/2006...ifications.php

well, according to this, all model year fusion's have electronic throttle bodies. but what is this about them being water heated?

also, does anyone know how or if you could convert a car that has a cable throttle body engine to an electronic throttle body?

you would need the whole pedal assembly fromthe drive by wire car. you would also need to swap the trans as the MZR motor uses a different bolt pattern.

hmm, that kinda sucks. do you know if the trans mounts are the same?

our throttle bodies are water heated. well coolant headed. on the head next to the distributer the water outlet you will see a pipe heading to the back of the car. it has a rubber hose that goes to the throttle body.

awww yeah. well thats cool. so other than running megasquirt and grabbing the pedal assembly, and fabbing the engine mounts, is there anything else that you guys can think of that would stand in the way of that swap? if it uses the g5m tranny, you can use the same axles, right?

nope, diff spline count. custom axles. its taller too, not sure how tall, might run into the hood. not a lot is common.

its a total custom job, like David.
No car! I soldz it. Now I have a truck. I like it, but apparently it has a hard time keeping up with a slightly modified 4WD protege with half the hp. Neat.

yeah, it sucks they have to create new engine technology that's better and different, rather than continue to try and refine the wonderful pushrod motor. I fcking hate pushrods.

im talking about how they made a lot of the internals interchangable and used the same block with the same motor mounts that could be swapped into various other vehicles, smartas$.

haha! yea, it is nice the small block hasn't changed in 40 years, there are some serious benefits to that.
