    Mx-3 Rebuild

My Mx-3 was sitting for over a month in the garage but I finally managed to find some time to start working on it.

As you know my Gtr motor seems tho have rod knock or sth. I'll tear the engine apart to find the problem and rebuild it with forged internals. It will be a long lasting as will be changing-upgrading almost anything...
It's going to be my project car from now on.
Here are some pics of the engine bay. It's the most I could do with the tools and the time I had.(I'm doing my army service)
I'll post more and bigger pics of the removed stuff in a couple of days.

Today I removed the head... The pistons are in great shape...

No 3 piston was the one to blame. I also found a piece of it smashed on the head wall... That might have caused the knocking noise... as it was deformed by the piston hitting it against the head. The other 3 pistons seem to have cracks at the same spots with the one that failed... the cylinder wall seems ok... no big scratches.. the ring must be ok.

I'll remove the mbsp tomorrow to check the crank - rods too... The valves seem ok although they are pitch black

I removed all pistons. The other three were all "baked" at the first ring groove...(spongy textures) The rods are all in perfect condition, The rod bearings were also in very good condition. No crank side play, no rod side play. Nothing.

I was always on the far rich side of tuning. 10 -11 a/f. The only thing I can suppose is that the problem started when I had misfires on harsh gear changes before I decided to rip out the harness and rebuild it.
After the harness rebuild it was running like a charm...
but I guess the damage was already done... The pyrometer hardly reached 950 at the downpipe, if i remember...

You need to change your coolant more often.

950 celsius? That's 1750F and I personally have never seen more than 1350-1400F 4 inches from the turbo.

                              Here is some progress...
We managed to remove the flywheel at last... Damn it's a bitch to remove these bolts.
We also removed the crank. The crank and journal bearings were in very good condition... Then, I saw this HUGE hole next to the 4th cyl oil jet... At first I thought " Sh1t... I must buy a new block..." then I searched a bit on the site and in the "build your bp for boost" topic, I saw that all blocks are the same. Is it the crankcase ventilation hole?
