We have problems with 3rd gear a lot... so be careful... and 2nd gear syncros... what kind of power are you gonna put through it?

all G series boxes have those problems, unfortunately. i'm just going to use the output shaft and ring gear from the capri tranny, all the gears/synchros and whatnot will be coming from a low mileage BP tranny.

i'm going to be running ~300whp/tq through it with a quaife.

ok. yeah i know all g-types have it... i just wanted to make sure you didnt think it was gonna be the answer to all your problems. i wasn't real worried, you seem pretty knowledgeable.

currenly i run out of gear in 4th in the quarter, so i could use a bit more gear there... and in the low gears it just burns tire so a steeper FD should help a little there too. plus with the taller FD i'll be able to finish the 1/8th in 3rd, too... for days where its too windy to run the 1/4. PLUS supposedly with a steeper gear it is stronger because the teeth are bigger. all good things as far as i can tell as long as the case doesnt split in half

As long as you're doing all that, you might as well look into also swapping out the fifth gear with the 626. Should save you gas. It dropped my rpms by about 500 at highway speeds. You might also consider the Phantom Grip LSD kit.

umm, he's putting in a quaife so he wouldn't want to go with a phantom grip that doesn't really work. also, he only drag races this car, he doesn't drive it everyday. either way it's gonna eat up the gas.

I've decided that my car is a girl, she's picky as hell, won't listen to me, always wants to fight me, and when i give her presents it's never good enough and she always wants more.

i'm having a really hard time finding a 3.85 tranny so i think i'm going to get stuck with the 4.10, but i'll change up the other gear ratios.

my main concern is 4th being too short, but the 3.85 woulda made 1st and 2nd a little longer too which would help. all g-series have the same 1st and 2nd ratios so the only way to adjust them at all is to change the final drive.

Oooooooooohhhh.... You mean this is not doubling up as his daily driver? Well, if that's the case... just take it to 8k on the tach in 4th! LOL

i do sort of daily drive it, sometimes... like to work or around town and such. the only highway trips i really make with it are to the drag strip.

i dont like revving it over 7k because high rpm plus high power is what breaks BP's. oil pumps mostly... which then takes out everything else.

I was only kidding about taking it to 8000.
