    Ford in the AWD

So I was wondering if anyone with a 4wd has a ford BP engine running in the 4wd protege?

I'm also converting it from an auto to a manual

This is my intended set up:

    Ford escort BP05 with 50k only $200

    BPT tranny $450

Ford Escort Harness and ECU $48

Now all I need is shift assembly and pedals and master clutch cylinder. Is there anything else I'm missing and do you think I should have any issues with the ford engine and the BPT tranny working together?

There isn't much difference between the Mazda and Ford BPs. (Ford doesn't have a main bearing plate, Ford fuel rail has the fuel pressure reg. turned 90 degrees from the Mazda, sensors for instrument cluster are different) Otherwise, they should be pretty compatible.

You need a clutch but you know that. Depending on the BPT tranny, you might need the slave cylinder. You probably need the clutch hardline and a flexible hose of some kind. And shift linkage cables.

Also you should remove the park interlock from your ignition switch.

you might have some wiring issues with the FWD harness in the 4wd car

Well what parts of the wiring harness connect to the tranny on the 4wd?

it doesnt have to do with the tranny really, the wiring harnesses are simply wired differently... mainly something to do with the fuel pump i believe

I already told you, just replace the main harness as the auto one will require a lot of wire tracing and splicing and use a Ford engine harness with the ECU if you want all your sensor to plug in properly. Then again, you might have some issues with the cluster if you use Ford stuff.

It is a ford ECU and harness. and I guess I'll have to deal with the cluster when I come to that.

So 323driver what your saying is that I may have to do some stuff for the wiring of my gauge cluster? Is that it?

therieldeal, your saying I may have an issue with the fact that a EGT has one fuel pump and my 4wd has 2 fuel pumps right?

Any other area's I should look at?

323driver I think you said I needed new front axles too is that right?

Do you have the FSM for the GT-X and Escort?

look into the modifications that FWD people have to do when using a AWD GTX harness. i believe you'll need to be doing the opposite.

Well the one for my car shows that there is a separate 4wd fuel managment part that is under my seat. it seems to do all the controlling of the two fuel pumps so I don't think I have to worry too much but I guess we'll all see soon.

what you can do with the secondary pump cpu is tap its 12V supply into the primary pump's 12V supply, thus simplifying the wire management. I'd only do that if you're having issues mating the fwd harness and 4wd.
No car! I soldz it. Now I have a truck. I like it, but apparently it has a hard time keeping up with a slightly modified 4WD protege with half the hp. Neat.
