GI: properly baffled aluminum catch can

how many of you guys would be interested in a well-built catch can? it would have proper baffleing, compared to most cans on the market which have none.

i'm thinking.... approx 4" diameter (round) by 6" tall, with an inlet on the side at the top and an outlet hole in the top center where a stock mazda PCV valve and grommet would mount (unless someone can suggest a more durable/better sealing valve from a different make/model). the idea is you'd run a gutted pcv valve in the stock location, and the catch can would not be pressurized under boost as it would be if you ran one inline on the stock pcv hose. the whole top would be a threaded removeable cap so you can clean it out occasionally, and it would also feature a petcock drain at the bottom. it would probably have some threaded lugs welded to the side for a mounting bracket, like you see on FMIC's.

how much would it be worth to you?

... bear in mind that the ever popular greddy catch can at ~$80 contains NO baffles whatsoever

here at work they make various strainers/floats out of aluminum tubing in various diameters, all TIG welded:

we also have all types of threaded caps and adapters and other components....

i'm going to try and design something using (if possible) all pre-existing components of other parts that we sell, so that it would be quite easy and less expensive to make these. gotta poke around a bit and come up with a blueprint/sketch and then bring it up to my boss.

early planning stages here guys... just trying to figure out if this is worth doing beyond just a single one-off for myself.

gutted pcv valve in valvecover -> hose -> side of can -> pcv valve in top of can -> hose -> manifold

wouldn't boost get forced into the catch can then back to the valve cover?

no the pcv valve in the top of the catch can closes when you hit boost... keeping boost out of both the can and the valvecover.

if you left the pcv valve in the stock location and simply put an inline can on that hose, the can would see boost and be more prone to leakage.

ok so you will have 2 pcv valves one in the top of the can and the other gutted in the stock location

yes. only because a gutted pcv valve is the easiest way to connect a hose to the valvecover... otherwise you'd need to have a hose barb or AN bung welded on or threaded in. which you could do... i'm just suggesting the simplest/cheapest configuration.

if you fill the greddy will brillo pads or steel wool(or any non baffled one) it works just as good as a baffled one.

This is true. Only concern would be getting steel wool "residue" in your intake.

I'd be down for one. I know first hand your work is quality. I'm actually installign that fuel rail tomorrow. Super excited. I'm looking forward to a catch can too.
I live my life a quarter pounder at a time. And for those 500 calories or more, I'm free. I need FRIES! Two of them. The big ones. Oh, and I need them tonight. You're lucky the double shot of BBQ sauce didn't blow the seam on your nugget box. There she is, 2 pounds of pure beef. My dad ate it in 9.0 seconds flat. Check it out, it's like this. If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important.
