Is my fuel pump going out?

This is on my 1.9L but this is the best place for real info.

I have the "dieing around corners when low on fuel" problem so I know that there is something wrong with my fuel pump. Over the last few months I have noticed another problem.
While acceleration I will lose power and the exhaust of my car will go from a nice hummmmmmmmmm to a wuwuwuwuwuwuwu sound. After a while it will go away and I will feel more power as the motor is now running correctly.

I feel this leads back to a bad fuel pump. I always run 90 octane too.

Block is almost done, cylinders are overboard for Weisco pistons, pro gram billet main caps have been line bored, and my chinese EDT rods have been machined to right specs. Everything has been balanced.

just grab a used pump to check. if it is the pump then upgrade that sucker.

the pump getting dry around corners has something to do with the baffles in there.

change the fuel filter for starters and hook up a fuel pressure guage to test it dont throw parts at it

        Fuel filter first.

then check your pressure (ie. might be the regulator)

        Then go after the pump/sender.

Think about which parts are easier to get at....those are the ones you always do first :-P

i know this is an old thread but i'm currently experiencing the same issue, i even changed fuel tanks, cleaned the fuel filter and same issue, did u ever get to the problem? i'm about changing my pump because its making a high and low wining noise as if the fuel is surging back and forth

Mine just died a few days ago on mine. I have a 91. I noticed that it was hard to start. I had to try starting it 3 times and have the petal to the floor for it to crank. I changed it and had low fuel and it did the cutout around turns and on the gas. That is typical for escorts. I got the whole pump assembly and it still sputters under a 3/8s tank.

i fixed the issue with mine, now i can run down to empty and it works fine, i said i would do i write up but haven't had time, in a nut shell, what u do is to try to lower the pump by bending the bracket brace downward to ensure the pump filter is nestled on the bottom of the tank (if applicable) or, if your pump assembly does not have a bracket brace then u can extend on the rubber hose that links the pump to the assembly and zip tie the pump to the return hard line
