The Seafoam Debate, State your Experience

Please post your comments if you have used Seafoam. Just a quick word on the problem, and if Seafoam fixed the problem.

    Indicate where you added it.
    1. Was it in the gas tank...if so, how much?
    2. Did you pull it in on a vacuum line, which one? How much?
    3. Or did you pour it in with the oil?

    Please indicate engine.

    Thanks!

Snorted through a vacuum line into the intake manifold. Didn't have a problem but figured it was prolly all carboned up in there and my brother had some Seafoam left after doing one of his cars. So I did it. I had a laugh fest driving the car around spewing smoke...it seemed to idle smoother, possibly...probably the placebo effect. Still worth it. lol

Just a word of caution...never let the seafoam gulp down the can if you are letting a vaccum hose suck it up..let it sip it very slowly.Too much seafoam will break a rod..ive seen it.

I live my life a quarter pounder at a time. And for those 500 calories or more, I'm free. I need FRIES! Two of them. The big ones. Oh, and I need them tonight. You're lucky the double shot of BBQ sauce didn't blow the seam on your nugget box. There she is, 2 pounds of pure beef. My dad ate it in 9.0 seconds flat. Check it out, it's like this. If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important.

Put 3/4 can in the oil and let it run 15 mins than changed the oil. Had a valve tick(maybe lifter) when I put it in then as it was running I heard it slowly get quiet.

Put 1/2 can in 1/4 tank of gas and sucked 1/4 can through brake booster hose to clean out the intake manni. Not sure which 1 did it but idle lowered to a more normal rpm and felt smoother running.

i've done this to 2 cars with hla. one was my car and the other was a dsm. 3/4-1 bottle in oil. drove it for ~30 minutes then changed oil. put 1 bottle in glass with full tank to clean it out.

it takes probably about 2 fill ups before it it's fully run through. after that i noticed that it ran a little smoother and good idle. also got rid of the valve tick for several months, and even then it only ticks for a few seconds then goes away. the only true way to get rid of it is A: change to solid lifters B: take them apart and personally clean them. but this is a good temp fix for it.

i've told people to run this in there oil before an oil changed, especially if it's a used car that you recently bought and hasn't been taken care of and watch to see how nasty the oil is when you change it. seen it done to several cars and it works wonders. you don't want to use it on every oil change because it is a strong chemical that if used ever time can possibly lead to seals going bag (don't quote me, just a possible theory)

Whole can snorted in through the brake vacuum line through a straw on my protege. Smoked like hell, not noticable difference.

My brother put a whole can in a near-empty tank on his VW Cabrio, said it felt like a completely different (new) car afterwards.

Co-worker put a half-can in through the brake-line and half-can in the tank on his car (Intrepid, I think). He said it made an amazing difference - car idles and runs so smooth he can't tell it's running.

I've had nothing but good results.

Restored my friends compression on his K8 about 20-30psi. (vac line)

Helped my Protege GT with emissions testing (vac, gas ran thru a full tank, oil)

Helped my Protege GT down the road with a HLA tick

Helped contribute to global warming from all the smoke

                    JACK.

p.s. i usually use a straw to suck up the seafoam from the brake booster line going to the intake manifold. Pinching it helped control flow.

Ran it through a older Dodge truck. Vacuum and gas, gave it noticeable HP and bumped the gas mileage up.

Probably because it cleaned the gunk buildup around the seals

i did this on my beater a while back. it surely cleaned a bunch of gunk out of the motor when i put it in the oil, because the oil was NASTY when i drained it.

i put it in the gas and through the intake manifold too (mmm smoke) but i never really noticed any difference.

When I put seafoam through the vacuum line on my 96 Nissan Sentra, I noticed the engine start to smoke. When I took a closer look it was coming from under the intake manifold. It turned out the hose leading to the EGR was torn. So Seafoam helped me to notice that problem.
