    engine/tranny mounts

I did some looking around and haven't found any options for my two blown out tranny/bellhousing mounts. What are the rest of you doing about these aged, crappy old mounts? They look like they are the same, or very similar to one another. But, they also look a bit shorter than the 2wd front mounts. Are they?

I'm gonna take mine and get em filled with urethane. Have you tried mazda comp?

I already mod'd my front mount, which appeared to be the worst, the "Rally" way. I tack welded steel in the lower void of the mount, it's curved, pushing up toward the center. It may still be shakey becuase the rubber is soft and is now bouncing up, instead of just lying down lower like it was. Lots of engine vibration in the car now...

There a local guy here who made some mounts outta aluminum for his rally gtx. Jury's still out as to whether or not that's a good idea, but it's been I think 3 rallies and nothing unusual has broken yet.

window welded the front mount on mine, doesn't get squashed down now, but the rear is sagging instead. lame. I might just take them and figure out the spacing and just have some made with some 75-80 duro.
No car! I soldz it. Now I have a truck. I like it, but apparently it has a hard time keeping up with a slightly modified 4WD protege with half the hp. Neat.

Yeah, I'm not rallying the car, it's my daily driver. So, I don't want to make the mount too stiff. I like the idea of window weld or 75 duro urethane.

i hear if you just do the front and back mounts the vibrations aren't that bad because the side ones still absorb it.

i welded my lower mounts, and it was bad at idle. After raising the idle to 900ish it smoothed out. Definately put more power to the ground though.

i'd just use that 3m window weld, i have a rear mount filled right in front of me and i can juuuuust move it.

I'm going to give the 3M Windo-Weld trick a try. I'll fill the rest of the front one and all of the rear mount, see if some of my engine vibrations go away. I would say the engine is having troubles too, but it runs so strong, it just wouldn't make sense to me. (Strong for a B8 w/ 220K on it)

I did the window weld at work, while reading CP. I have pics, it amuses me.

                            Jon.

Just get some Round teflon stock and throw it in a lathe and make your new mounts.. the teflon is strong enough to take the abuse and will absorb a little of the vibes.. I used to do this on the RX7's.. I just don't have a lathe laying around any more...
