Locking the GTX/GTR Trans for FWD Dyno

I read somewhere that you could lock the diff so that you could use a front wheel drive Dyno for an AWD GTX/GTR. Could someone explain the procedure? I can move the shaft where the diff lock shaft would be on a USDM trans.

That is the procedure. Pull it out to lock. Push it back in to unlock.

hmm... seems like it could go back in with vibrations... Maybe some sort of attachment with an electric actuator to keep it in place and switch it from in the car...

      Good idea?

So I pulled it out and it doesn't seem to want to stay, or come out far enough to make an effect. The transmission is setting on my work bench without fluid in it though. Does it come out far?

I've never tried mine, but there is nothing else to it. Maybe turn a shaft while you pull. Or maybe just pull harder. That's all the motor does.

Locking or unlocking the centerdiff, and running it on a 2wd dyno, will result in distaster, unless you also unbolt the driveshaft. Power goes to all 4 regardless of the centerdiff, just to be sure everyone who wants to try this knows it...

yeah but after that you do have to lock the diff to get power to run to those wheels if i'm not mistaken... though with your vlsd center i'm not sure if that's as true...

Yes you're right, once you unbolt the rear driveshaft you have to lock either flavor of centerdiff to run the front wheels only on a dyno.
But running the car on a 2wd dyno is asking for trouble. The centerdiff was never meant to run to redline, spinning like mad, sending all power to the front of the car. It's weak enough under normal conditions as it is. You can, but I'd only do one reference pass. Better to try and find an AWD shop. No idea why there are at least 4 in my immediate local area...

why would you want to do this anyways?
I live my life a quarter pounder at a time. And for those 500 calories or more, I'm free. I need FRIES! Two of them. The big ones. Oh, and I need them tonight. You're lucky the double shot of BBQ sauce didn't blow the seam on your nugget box. There she is, 2 pounds of pure beef. My dad ate it in 9.0 seconds flat. Check it out, it's like this. If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important.

Oh and by the way that shot in your banner with Vin Diesel's car getting shot, thats a civic not an altezza.

say you want to dyno your car but you live in the boonies and the only dyno within 200 miles is a single roller 2wd dyno...
