    Mazda GTX/GTR oil pump

Is it any different than the NA pump to account for the pressure drop due to the turbo.

With my turbo and external oil cooler I notice that my oil pressure is on the lower side of spec and I am wondering if the GTR had an uprated pump.

supposedly the pump is the same, and the spring is simply higher pressure. the GTR spring is actually a different part number.... ryan has it you can get it through MMS.

That makes sense, to account for the pressure loss from the turbo itself. Look like I will be adding a shim or 2 to my pump. Damn I didn't want to take off the oil pan.

When you add the shims let me know what pressure it went up to and how many shims you added. I want to add shims to raise mine when I swap on a turbo pan when I boost.

VJ23. However I am also running an external oil cooler on a thermostat.

Miata guys claim 1-2mm shim ups the pressure 10-15 psi.

I will report back. Really not looking forward to taking the nicely sealed pan off. Anyone got any tips on doing this in-car?

How'd you seal your pan Alex? What'd you use, and what was your method?

I actually did a lot of research and ended up just upping the viscosity of the oil instead of shimming the pump. I wasn't looking forward to resealing the pan but I would use the stuff called "The Right Stuff" by Permatex

We use this stuff at work for sealing oil pans, but the Saabs don't have rubber gaskets, they're just one flat surface. We like it because it remains flexable, never hardens up completely, and never leaks.

I hope that it works well with the gaskets.

Did you guys put sealant on the pan, then put the gaskets in, then put more sealant on top of the gaskets? Or no sealant where the gaskets are? Or how'd you do it?

Sealant went on top of and underneath the gaskets. It never hurts.

That's what I was thinking. It'll help hold the gaskets in place during installation too.

So what oil did you go with? And it was adequate for not shimming the oil pump?
