    1993 RS F-series Lost 5th Gear

I was told by the previous owners that the car lost 5th gear one day, no grinding or anything, it just disappeared, like its in neutral, but it shifts into place. Do you think it could be a broken pin in the shift fork for 5th gear? I would like to fix it and not have to do any major drive train swaps before mid summer.

Open up the black cover on the end of the tranny and peak inside. The 5th gears are right there.

If you can't differentiate between brake and break, you should go back to school

That was what I planned on doing, If not I'll just drive it without overdrive and avoid the thruway

I believe the 5th gear shift fork also shifts the reverse gear. The countershaft gear could have dropped.

hmm, because I have reverse, I'm prolly going to hold off putting it on the road till after I can get a good look at why its doing what it is.

Can I replace my 5th gear set with ones from a 5 speed escort? The ones that came with the SPI 1.9L? I can get those really cheap...
