    Gates Racing Timing Belt

    Gates Racing Timing Belt
Is it better than OEM quality? Has anyone had experience with it? Has anyone heard anything bad about them?

I can get a OEM replacement for 30 or this for ~60 shipped. Worth teh monies?

I live my life a quarter pounder at a time. And for those 500 calories or more, I'm free. I need FRIES! Two of them. The big ones. Oh, and I need them tonight. You're lucky the double shot of BBQ sauce didn't blow the seam on your nugget box. There she is, 2 pounds of pure beef. My dad ate it in 9.0 seconds flat. Check it out, it's like this. If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important.

I've heard it is noisy. That's about the only downside I've heard.

That seems like a good price too, IIRC they retail for $80.

I got a Gates belt, haven't installed it yet, but I'm sure it will last longer and is stronger, especially with high compression motors, and it's cool cus most people get cam gears and leave the cover off so you can see it, plus it's a little different cuz it's not black. Looks like the Greddy timing belt.

The greddy timing belt has the color applied after the belt is made so its only on the outside. The gates belt has the color belended in the rubber mix which makes it fully blue.
I don't care about color I want to know if its worth 2x the money as a OEM belt

well, it's gonna be stronger then OEM which means it will probably last longer, so it's up to you.

Will you spend a lot of time at high RPMs, i.e. at the track. If yes then I would get it for piece of mind to know my timing belt won't fail unexpectedly. If you are driving to the movies, work, bar, home I don't think it's worth it.

                stock timing belt last 100k+.
Realistically motor isn't going to be around for that long.

If you want it for the "blueness" I guess its a reasonable purchase.

i got a goodyear timing belt for $30 from schucks. i still haven't put any of the belt covers back on cause they're broken but it's still really quiet.

and i don't see how more power would change the amount of stress the timing belt would need to take. however i can totally understand how constant high rpm's might want a stronger belt.

No the "blueness" is not the point..... Better material, outlasts normal belts, like wtrg said, good for people with aggressive driving habits.

The Gates Racing also manufactures Power Enterprise belts.

Mine works fine.. no whine at all.. check the tension on it if anything

Look on ebay.. goes for around $70-80 shipped at the most.. worth it to me for the extra bit of $$ and added insurance

If you're driving like an asshat something is going to go before a 20k timing belt.

Plain and simple......gates belts are stronger than stock. They won't outlast stock belts per say. Basically look at therieldeal's escort gtr. Its making 270+whp and he's running a stock belt. He hasn't put many miles on it but the stock belt is streching. If he ran the gates belt it would still be tight because the gates belt is stronger.

Timing belts are ment to last 60-90k before changing them. that's basically common knowledge. So if you are just n/a and make less than 200hp I say stocvk is fine. 250+ I'd be sure to get piece of mind and get a gates belt.
