    Alternator options

I am slowly gathering parts for my GTR engine. I am looking for an alternator. I am using the v ribbed belt, so I am looking at other items. What vehicles can I use an alternater from? Kia Sephia, Probe V6?

The Kia Alternator is 80 AMPS while the Probe V6 is 90 AMPS.

If I can get a higher amperage one for cheap, I might as well do it.

I thought the FS alternator had a 5 rib belt not 4...
I live my life a quarter pounder at a time. And for those 500 calories or more, I'm free. I need FRIES! Two of them. The big ones. Oh, and I need them tonight. You're lucky the double shot of BBQ sauce didn't blow the seam on your nugget box. There she is, 2 pounds of pure beef. My dad ate it in 9.0 seconds flat. Check it out, it's like this. If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important.

Went to Autozone today to look at alternators.

No Kia ones in stock. The V6 Probe one has a 5 rib alternator while the I4 Probe has a 4 rib. The plugs are the same, except one small plug on the back of the EGT one where the I4 Probe has a screw.

I take it that the plug is a ground of some sort.

What is a "3rd gen FS alternator its 85 AMPS & has a ribbed pulley to start with"?

I need to count the ribs since I do not have a v ribbed pulley for my alternator.

Essentially, I am looking for a bolt-on upgrade amperage alternator with a 4 v ribbed pulley. I think the Sephia one will work, as wil the 4 cylinder 1st gen Probe alternator.

Can anyone confirm this for me?

I'm sorry when i hear "V" belt i think of a single thin belt ...not a serpentine type multiple grooved belt .. am i wrong ?

A V belt is the v shaped belt used on the 1.8L engines for the water pump and alternator. The V ribbed belt is flat with smaller multiple ribs.

why not just swap pulleys? we do it all the time. i have a FD alt with an FC pulley in my gtx... as long as the plug is the same it should work..

We went thotugh this already. Was going to go with a V belt pulley, but decided to get the V Ribbed pulley.

The Sephia alternator is higher amperage than the Escort one.
