    3 10's. or 2 12's?

I'm in a bind. I want to know whether I should get 3 10" MTX Sledgehammer with a ported box, or 2 12" Kicker CVR's in a ported box.

    My amp is a Alpine MRD-M1005, which is rated by Alpine as 700rms @ 4 ohms, and 1000rms @ 2ohm, at 14.4.

The three 10's are rated by MTX at 675 rms @ 4ohms, and 1350 max.

The 2 12" are rated by Kicker at 800 rms @ 2 ohms, and 1600 max.

Space is not an issue, and neither is price.

    The 12's measure 32-3/4"W x 16-1/4"H x 17-1/2"D1 x 14-1/4"D2

    The 10's mesasure 35-1/4"W x 15-1/4"H x 17-1/8"D1 x 14-1/2"D2

The MTX's being $240, and the Kicker's also being the same.

I like deep bass, but I like accuracy too. I have not heard either of these in person, so personal experience with either of these will be helpful. The system will be tuned to specs after installation.

Here are some pics of the two:

well with either setup you're not using your amps full potential, you'll be at 4ohms and nowhere near driving your subs to their max. Personnaly I would just get one ground pounding 10 in a nice box. But if you absolutely want one of those 2 models I would go for 2x mtx, even though that wasn't one of your choices. That way you can wire them in parallel and get your 2 ohm load to be able to use the most out of your amp, while still being on the safe side power wise....and at least that way your close-ish to matching your amp's power rating.

So short answer, neither of those setups

deep and acurate bass will really only come from the 12's in a sealed enclosure ... which will almost dbl the size box needed .... the 10's will give you much sharper snap but will not hit those awesome subsonic 18hrz notes despite being in a ported box ... sealed is the way to go always as far as i am concerned. it really boils down to your personal pref tho if you like hard hitting tight bass or long sustained low bass. it's really hard to get both from the same enclosure and the acoustics of the car will play a huge factor

Sealed should be roughly 1/2 the size of ported, not dbl.

So, from your recommendations, how would two Alpine Type R 12" sound in a dual chambered 1.2 sealed enlosure?

Although the Alpine, on paper, handle 400 more watts, which will sound better, since they will roughly be the same price?

3000W-1000RMS Alpine would be the Type X, the Type Rs are 1500W-500RMS, you can get them in 2 or 4 ohm. Is the enclosure 1.2 cuft total or each side?

Those numbers are for a pair of subs.

The enclosure is 1.2 per side.

That's getting pretty close to the max for a sealed enclosure for the Type x's, ideal size is 1.0 cuft for them but will work in a 0.8-1.25 cuft range. The type R's however have an ideal size of 0.85 cuft and 0.7-1.0 range. Too big a box and you could risk overstretching the seal.
