    4wd to LX cluster conversion

if anyone was wondering, i figured out where the check engine light disappears to... since the labeled CEL becomes the new diff lock light.

on the back of the cluster there is a hole with no bulb labeled "CHECK". its just a blank light when it lights up.. no text. but that is in fact the new CEL.

Did you try swapping the plastic bits with all of the lights on them? :o

doesnt work, the 4wd cluster uses "L" shaped bits, while the LX/DX tach clusters have the lights all in a line.

okay, when you put the LX cluster in the 4wd.... the check engine light comes on when you turn the "diff lock" switch on. there is a spot in the LX cluster that comes from the factory with no bulb. if you put a bulb in there, it will be your actual check engine light.

Or just rewire your cluster wiring to match the drawings, it's 2 wires to move.

On mine, I have an LX wiring with 4WD cluster (needs to go, I know) and my diff lock is now the check engine light.

Could always cut the plastic bits and re-glue them with the lights where you want them to be.

eh i think that would make it look like ****.

not a bad idea though, i could probably follow the traces and repin like 2 wires, unless they are on different plugs

Cut and file so that they fit together well, and then wipe off the excess glue... if you did it right it would look fine.

You can re-wire it. Even on different plugs. It's easy. All you need is a needle to disengage the pins from their plugs. Once they are out they just clip into their new location. No soldering.

matts right cut and glue is much easier than tracing wires and cutting them... pluss you could always just undo what ever you did if you decide to change it back... idk why you would but thats what im gonna do :D
