    Valve cover paint

Here is what I used to paint the valve cover on my race engine. If you caught it in another post, my engine builder thought it was powered coated, so he put it in a solvent tank for over an hour. It came out unaffected. It also has been on the race engine for 700 miles, no burning or peeling. For anyone looking to repaint their valve cover, I highly recommend this paint. (No I don't work for Rust-Oleum)

I did strip the valve cover off all powder coating before painting it, media blasted it clean. (I think I used walnut shell media, but not sure.)
It's sort of a performance review, just performance paint... :-) The other night, when testing the new engine and looking at temp I noticed a few things. My aftermarket temp gauge was reading 210, but the factory gauge looked normal, so I pulled out my digital pyrometer gun. Top radiator hose was 170, heater hose was 180, lower radiator hose around 155-160, but the valve cover was 195. That chunck of alumium sitting on top of our engines gets very hot, heat soaking from the head below it. That's why cheaper paints are always burning off. I do have a hood exhuast vent on my car, that helps keep engine bay temps down a bit, so maybe my car stays a little cooler than some others.
