Swaped a GTX engine into a 98 pro. However the engine was down for a long while, but now that it is installed it is eating the alternator/water pump belt. Let me futher explain, when I put on a new belt Goodyear Gator 17360, I can drive around normally for a while but then the next day you will get the smell of burning rubber. When you look under the hood there will be fine pieces of the belt all around the alternator. So I tighten the belt and after awhile the same thing. I am on my fourth belt, any thoughts. By the way I already took down the alternator and serviced it.

Have been tightening everything up as best as I can, really limited space in there. The other day I gave her a good hard run when I was finished so was the belt, I lifted the hood and there was only smoke from the belt disintegrating. Was wondering can I swap pulleys from my B6DE, because these pulleys are serpentine.

Look stuff over real carefully while it's running. The problem should be obvious. There should be about a halfinch of deflection midspan on the blets. if they're too tight they'll get eaten.'90 AWD Protege, full GTR drivetrain swap, ~320 whp daily driver, RIP, and

WTF, over? Flipped over but still on the pulleys? What next, it's gonna puke pea soup?
My rallycar played a trick on me its first time out, day 2 of the rally at stage start it just up and threw both belts clean off. We made the end of the stage and put the spares on during transit and it never did it again. No idea why or how. Maybe your car is possessed, too.'90 AWD Protege, full GTR drivetrain swap, ~320 whp daily driver, RIP, and

I've had it happen before. I'd swapped an FD alternator onto my gtx and it was slightly cocked... It really sounds like you have a bent pully or somethings wobbling or something off for sure. If you can't see it... I'd have someone else take a look at it too. Like Jay said, it should be fairly obvious.
