GI: traction bars for the BG

who here drag races their BG often?

    who's got wheel hop problems?

traction bars help to eliminate wheel hop, so you can launch harder and not break stuff (woot!). in fwd applications it usually consists of a beam that bolts up at/near the tow hooks, with heim joints and arms extending rearward to solid mounting points on the LCA's.

example of a civic traction bar:

i'm JUST BEGINNING to talk to someone about making some of these for the BG. no dates are set, no prices are set, heck... he hasnt even crawled under the car yet.

i'm just curious who might be interested.

thats going to depend on a lot of measurements... but if i had to guess i'd say it would probably be no easier than trying to modify a set of civic ones or something.

All the civic traction bars I have seen so far usually result in the towhook points ripping off the rad support/frame rails.

Just a point that I have noticed.

These are also on cars that aren't your local rice mobiles

if they are designed poorly they can bind, which could cause the results you mention... there were a lot of poorly designed ones out there for civics a few years ago.

these would be most helpful for higher horsepower cars... with a stock-ish driveline you can probably get away with just stiff engine mounts and poly LCA bushings. that should kill most if not all wheel hop.

stiff mounts reminds me to get that rear one installed damn not having time to crawl around under my car.

in my opinion it will be EXTREMELY difficult to manufacture a traction bar for the BG that will do any bit of good. the best mounting point for a traction bar would be by the balljoint @ the end point of the LCA, where things move the most. using a given thickness & 2 holes with longer balljoint bolts & a hiemjoint coming out of it, it could be feasible. however creating such a product will limit turning radius extensively..... if you can figure out a way of getting around limiting the turning by all means im 100% in.
