Just got a 93 EGT and have a 92 Protege DX laying around..what can I scavenge?

    Hello all,

I have made the jump from a 92 Protege DX to a 93 EGT. I am going to miss driving my Protege DX which was incredibly reliable and gave awesome gas mileage.

I was however scared that something was going to break on it soon and I didn't want to spend alot of money on something that was in the poor shape it was in.

I am going to be grabbing the MX-3 seats out of it first.

I already read the sticky on the top of this forum and wanted to know what else I can scavenge of this Protege DX.

I'd love to scavenge everything and anything lol!

My Protege DX has a brand new gas tank, and I think it's bigger than the EGT's.

    Will that swap?

My Protege DX also has a brand new 2 row radiator. I was looking at radiator barn and it looks like the EGT uses a different radiator.

I'd love to be able to swap it, but if that won't work I will just live with it.

Any other nit picky things that you can think of that I can swap?

    lol

    Thanks for your time!

well from the DX there probably isn't too much you can swap, most of it will be a downgrade. I think the gas tank doesn't quite fit either.

Thanks for the warning...do you or anyone else have any idea on the radiator?

I went to radiator barn and the radiator looks to be a totally different core size...but I have seen posts where it says that it will fit as long as I take the lower radiator hose of the protege...

I am quite sure you can make them fit. but i believe the lower brackets don't line up and yes your correct that you have to use the Protege hoses! I think the top mounts line up just fine!

EGT rads are different that Protege ones. There will be some bracket swapping involved, if you're using a mazda rad, snag one from an automatic, they're dual core

indeed, the brackets are in different spots at the bottom. you'll have to do some drilling or welding or somtehing to move them to the right spot. you will also need the protege hoses top and bottom.

the tank will not work at all. i mean, it might physically fit but you'll have to hack up your fuel lines and fuel pump wiring... it'd be a mess.

why would you do that unless you dont have space for a normal rad?

                    Good info guys!

Is there a difference between dual core and dual row?

I have an automatic radiator on my protege already. Is that still inferior to the EGT radiator?

                    Thanks

i dont know for sure, but my egt radiator is only a single row, and its got a transmission cooler in it. i cant imagine it being much better than whats already in your protege

the protege rad might be better, but modding things to put it in there may not be worth it.

i have a nearly brand new (less than 5k miles) escort radiator if you're looking to replace yours. shoot me a PM.

Thanks for the offer, but the radiator in there seems fine right now.
