Don't see why not. the GTX and GTR don't have one.
No car! I soldz it. Now I have a truck. I like it, but apparently it has a hard time keeping up with a slightly modified 4WD protege with half the hp. Neat.

you know the gtx trans has a viscous center diff and the US trans has an open center diff, right? in really low traction situations that means one wheel drive just like fwd.

why not keep the stock trans as a spare?

o.k. well im going to be putting the diff lock back on, but there is a bolt that goes by a speedo sensor, its the top bolt that goes thru the tranz,,, to remove the diff lock actuator off you need to remove this bolt, is the bolt important?, cause i must have lost it?

          so is the bolt important?
does anyone have a pic of the bolt?

if I remember I'll take a pic when I get home, as my usdm trans is in the trunk. Don't you have the pdf manuals? There's around 15 posts about them on here, and at least 5 different links that work. You should get them, as the usdm 4wd manual shows you what you're asking.

yeah, the bolt's important, special shape and all iirc.

well i posted this ? on the 323gtx yahoo forums too, see that the sohc 1.8 awd tranz are almost the same if not the same as the ones in the bf 323 gtx'es.

The bolt has a 12mm head and is about 1.5" long with a pointed tip.

To lock the diff, the rod moves out from the trans, not in.

I don't see how the rod could move out from the in position on its own, but
if you can get the diff locking motor back on you will be just fine. The
bolt was to allow you to turn the rod 90 degrees to slip it off. As long as
the diff motor is on, the rod will not move. It's a gear drive unit.

well after looking threw some extra bolts i found the bolt, 12mm head with a long golf tee looking bottom.
i think i got the right one.
hopefullt tom, i will feel the awd for the 1st time.

well i had to swap a a different tranz in my car, and want to keep the difflock motor off and cant remember how i did this so its not locked in 4wd. im leaving the diff lock motor off cause it creates more room back there for repairs, ect.

if in remember correctly, i leave the difflock rod in the in position and turn it then install the oddball bolt, then the rod should not be able to move out,,
                      but im not sure.

i guess my main question is, the difflock rod should be in the IN position to be unlocked and the OUT position to locked into 4wd?

Awwww crap. I am almost sure it's IN. But not completely.
I'll check that in the morning. Both my spare gearboxes should be in the unlocked position.
