    Project Jay-Spec 323 KLZE

Just bought a 94 323 SE as the base of my new project car. I plan to use
MX-3 front and rear subframes, engine and chasis wiring harness' and a curved necked KLZE.

The car wash seemed like the best place to start.

It looked a little better after.

The engine compartment was a little yickey!

I am saving the 1.6L for my other 323 so I hosed it down also. I used "Revive" engine degreaser. It is the best degreaser I have ever used.

    Before:

    After:

Then I pulled the interior. (I plan to use an MX-3 chasis harness)

I actually power washed the inside of the car!! I figured if it fried the wirring, it would not be a big deal. People at the car was stared in disbelief

Then I took the dash out.

After that I took out the engine.

That was day one! Somehow I think the project will slow down a little from this point on. Well at least until I buy a MX-3 parts car. Next round I am going to knock the rear sub frame out and paint the top and bottom of the floor and the engine compartment. I have to fix a little rust in the passenger rear inner fender also. I screwed-up the subframe to rad support nutserts, so I got to somehow fix those too. There was some kinda metal splash sheild inner fender type deals under the air box that must of been retaining water because they are dust?! Cold air via a rust hole?! I will have to have a closer look.

My other 323 has 460000KM on it, and I beat it like I stole it (every day), So I was not that surprised when my new one started right up after the engine / interior powerwashing. I drove it there, un-bolted the drivers seat washed it, then bolted the seat back in and drove it home LOL. I am swaping in an Mx-3 harness (engine and interior) so I figured if it fried, I would just have it towed home. I did it all in one day, but I was so sore the day after I thought I was going to die! (I am an old man of 33)

if youre swapping out the interior harness as well, the rear lights have different sockets. i just cut and respliced the 323 light socket onto the mx3 wiring harness. i had my 323 completely gutted in 6 hours, only thing was the frame and fuel tank. easy to do when ive done it to my mx3 about 4 times now.

Did you use the MX-3 rear disc brakes?? I have not got the MX-3 yet, but I was told besides the lights the hazard flasher and the gauge cluster dimmer switch have to be spiced in too. Are they color coded and stupid proof? hehe
What rad did / do you use in your swaps? I was thinking 95-98 Dodge Neon, but some dude with an escort was using a Probe Gt rad. That looked like a really clean instal......if it fits in a 323??

Bought Some Konig Maxxim air's and 205/50/15 Falken Azenis RT615's today.

I also bought an engine crane. The dude at the rental shop said I could have bought theirs three times over with all the rental fee's I paid over the years. I refused to rent it on Monday because Princess Auto had cranes on sale Tuesday for $219.00! The old floor jack and a prayer got the 323 engine out quick and dirty. The KLZE will fo in on the hook though! I have got the performance parts I want figured out. I am going to go with an ACT clutch, Pacesetter headers and a Vibrant cat and Muffler.
I am going to put B&G lowering springs and some KYB GR2's on the MX-3 suspension before it goes back on the 323. I am going to likely just put stock new brakes and fresh ball joints and tie rods on too. I plan on painting the car flat black for that stealth look. Well that and I am cheap, broke and generally sick of washing cars. (I washed the Mustang more then I drove it this summer).

The Parts Source. It is called "Revive". I discovered it while working on my other 323. I had to replace the little steel coolant pipe on the 1.6L. It had been leaking for..............ah 10 years or so, so the engine had a 1" layer of goo on it. I just bought it because it was on sale at the time, but it works much better then "Gunk' and other crap I have used in the past.

Good luck with your build! I always wanted a V6 in a proto for a daily driver, but a V6 in a 323 will be fun to drive. Keep us posted on the build

hey, i dont come on here as much as on mx-3.com
for a rad i just picked up a 96? civic hb one (the devil). i have not tried it yet due to i ripped the whole car apart (again) to repaint it. the civic one is only about 16" wide. the problem was with the one i used the first time was the headers were hitting it and i didnt want it to get crushed when shifting gears, other problem was the coolant lines were in bad spots. when i gutted my 323 the only thing besides the body that i reused were the fuel lines, gas tank and heater core. everything else came from my 93 gs se (i know, poor se..it went to the crusher). front and rear sub frame, all wiring, dash, cluster, seats...everything. i will see if any pictures got saved from my last computer when it crashed, dont know what made it from the old hard drive. i should be repainting the 323 here in about 2-3weeks if i have time. if you have any questions just hit me up.

well this is the only photo left except a shot of the gutted shell. pretty much a full mx3 interior, seats sit way low for me, im only 5'6" on a good day. abit of work, the dash pad has a large gap that i will need to fix. this pic is from about a year ago when i first swapped everything over. also had to cut the door handles so they could close with the mx3 dash. got a mirage halo swap half done as well as a fiberglass subbox. plus the 2 hole front bumper. have a set of civic side skirts that i was thinking of modding. hope to pick up a gtr rear bumper next spring.
