Ok, I finally got around to starting the new racecar project. It's going to be for the US Touring Car Championship. An EGT with a BPT and a widebody kit/ lots of aero aids/ and as lite as humanly possible. We started with a $200 92', stripped it and acid dipped it.
We then put it on a rotiserrie and seam welded the whole chassis-
After that an FIA style rallycage was built tying in all the suspension/strut mounting points
After getting the bulk of the welding done, we painted the underbody with some metal etching primer, then a gloss white paint-
We started installing the drivers office equipment, moving the seat/shifter/pedal assembly back 10"-
Along the way we created some tubular crossmembers to relocate some of the suspension (see the suspension section thread---we may sell some of these parts!)
It seems like it's been taking forever to do this stuff but we really just started a few months ago, and we're just starting to really get going. It won't be long before the suspension gets mounted and it's rolling! I've posted this on some of the escort forums, but thought it would be cool to get more input/ideas over here!
