I have owned and Escort since 99 and before that my mom did. That one blew in 2003 and that is where I picked a new escort. This one was a 94 Escort LX Sport which meant it had the 2D EGT body.
Years went by before I actually started on this. One day in the summer of 07 I spotted a 94 EGT in the Auto Craft center in Hanau Germany. $250 later is was mine. I drove it like hell back to my post in Darmstadt and got started.
I took out the motor and tranny and I got rid of the EGT body. The engine was completely disassembled so I could get to work. 300 Euros later a German machine shop had over bored the block for some Weisco pistons. A friend of mine bored out a GTR intake that I had bought and I shipped it off to Miata Roadster for extrude honing.
Now back in the states I found a machine shop in Alexandria LA. They are doing the rest of the machine work. They already checked the cylinder bores and they are good. Next up, line boring for my new main caps.
To make this easy this is what I have for the BP swap.
BP motor
BP tranny
BP ECU
BP engine wiring harness
Wiesco Forged AL pistons 8.5:1
ProGram Forged Billet main caps
EDT Racing H beam rods
ARP main cap studs
The block, crank, Pistons, caps, rods, and studs are at the machine shop now. I am getting the line boring done and I am getting the ETD rods machined so the wrist pins float. I am also having the whole thing balanced and the crank will get lightened a bit.
I need to buy more parts but I am waiting on the tab from the machine shop first. Shades MX3 thread inspired me to take on this massive job. Hard part so far is moving everything from Germany back to the states.
Pics after I get some sleep.
