    Check engine

I just purchased a GTX but it doesn't start, there is a wiring problem somewhere and the ECU might be broken as there is spark at cranking but no fuel.

    1. Does the GTX have a check engine light that can throw out codes?
    2. Is the spark controlled by the ecu or is it purely mechanical?

I get spark so I doubt the ecu is the problem but I want to be sure.

Would really like that car to run, need a car for the winter.

    thanks

Sounds like fuel pump to me. I have actually driven my car without the ECU hooked up before, dont know how but it drove ok (wouldnt recomend it)
If its not firing, and you think its fuel, Check for power at the fuel pump, and make sure your fuel delivery system is clean and clear.

The car has an adjustable FPR with a gauge and there is pressure at cranking, hence the fuel pump is good but the chambers are dry so the injectors are not firing.

So, does anyone know the answer to the above questions? I want to be prepared when I go work on the car this weekend.

that is 100% impossible. without the ecu the injectors will not fire any fuel and the car will not run. thats like saying your car ran without plug wires.

Yeah... the car won't start if the rom is burnt wrong on the ecu.... there is a CEL and the spark is distributor based... thus mechanical.

This was in my SE. I had swapped motors in it with a later B6, and was still trying to get the wiring right. I had pulled the ECU, and forgot about it. It was siitng in the Pass. Seat next to me, when I turned it over. again, Dont know how that happened, or what had happened, but it ran at idle for like 3 minutes. I correct the fact that I didnt drive it, come to think of it, just idled. Dont know how it worked, but it did. It still has me confused too. This was 2 years ago too, but I could try it again.

Thanks 808, I will check for power at the injectors and all. It really looks like the ecu is dead especially if the spark is mechanical.
