Did you tell him to make sure to 0 out his timming after he starts it.

i made up a base map based on several others map images running MegaSquirt. was a little weird extrapolating the information, but i got it. i set timing to be at 10 all the way up to 1000RPM and at light load on 1500RPM, this helped me to set the actual timing on the motor/distributor.

the car runs, i'm still tuning the fuel maps. once i get the fuel to burn 14.7:1--11:.5:1 i will tweak the timing a bit to try and get more power out of the motor.

cidle323 is sending me a map, i'll take a look at it and make some more adjustments on my own.

this is in a rally car 323- the last thing i want to do is blow up the motor. as long as i'm getting 150-200HP i will be happy, reliability is more important for me.

              thanks guys!

i set the motor to timing mark 10. i made sure that the timing belt was on correctly and that the dist was firing cyl1 at TDC also. the car runs good for now.

If you set the cam timming to 10 and the haltech base timming to 10 then you are running 10 degrees more across the whole map. You need to 0 out your timming.
Onlock your timming in the haltech software and with a timming light set cam timming to 0 then lock the timming in the haltech setup.

i think he is saying he set the haltech map so that at idle it would be running 10* advance, and then set it to 10* with a timing light... which would be correct.

All timming advance should be done with the haltech. The cam timming should be 0 with the timming unlocked.

if the engine is running normally on the haltech, at idle... and the idle part of his ignition map is set to 10* advance.... then he will see 10* of advance when checked with a timing light.

i'm pretty sure that's what he did, and that would be correct.

Yeah but Jon, you have to lock the timing into the computer first so the computer knows where zero is, the manual is pretty specific about it. Before you do anything else, you lock timing at 10 degrees BTDC, set the timing on the motor to zero it out, and then do what you have to do.

correct Jon, 10* on the haltech map and 10* on the timing notch on the motor with the timing light. thats where its at. run good! sounds really good from the tail pipe.... nice and low bum bum bum bum bum bum smooth tho, dont get me wrong.

had it running in the garage for like 10 minutes and hardly any smelly fumes!
